I literally failed the final and two midterms, but Daryl has such a generous curve that I got a B in the class. Bless up. If youre like me and math makes you wanna kys, I recommend this class. Will you like math after this class? Definitely not. But will you pass? Most likely, and thats what matters.
Since the class was taught through only powerpoints, it was difficult to follow his thought processes during problems. But as long as you enroll in CLAS along with this class and you'll pass; Lee DeAnda in particular is the only reason I didn't fail. Textbook was "mandatory," but you can do without. All homework was online.
Professor Cooper is a very funny guy and his jokes made lecture bearable at 9 am. His powerpoints were rather confusing and I used my knowledge of high school calculus to do well in his class, but I recommend doing the midterm practices and you should do fine! His tests are pretty much the practice.
Daryl is an entertaining and funny guy who likes to tell a lot of jokes during class so it definitely makes lectures interesting however there is a lot of homework that often has nothing to do with the lectures. He gives practice midterms but the real midterms are often harder than the practice ones so you have to go to class and study very hard!!
He really wants you to pass the class. I literally failed 2/3 midterms and ended with an A- due to his grading system. CLAS really helped.
He's very funny. Tends to overcomplicate the class with ridiculous word problems. Lecture has absolutely no connection to homework and exams but attendance is mandatory so go because he bumps a C- to a B if you attend all lectures and do all homework. Beware, this class isn't as easy as everyone says, and I actually enjoy math. Wish I took 3A...
Easily one of the best professors Ive ever had. Keeps the lectures entertaining with his humor. Even though the HWs a little difficult, midterms and final were super fair.
Daryl Cooper is such a compassionate professor. In every lecture you can tell how much he cares about his students. He is a brilliant man and I am so glad I got the chance to take his class.
He's a fair grader and tries to make lecture entertaining he raises grades at the end of the quarter if you put in effort (go to lecture/section/do homework)
daryl is a quirky and funny guy but wouldn't say he is the best professor because his lectures will seem quite simple then the homework will be difficult. but, it is a pretty easy class if you do the homework and use his practice tests to study. if you're just looking to pass, he'll make sure you do if you put in enough effort.
Tests were 80% harder than practice tests and problems done in class. Questions were very unclear on final test which happens to be 50% percent of your grade. THIS IS NOT AN EASY A CLASS!!!
Daryl is great! He's super funny and as long as you keep up with the work it is easy to succeed in his class.
Great professor! He tells lots of jokes in class. There's homework due every day you have lecture, so I would just go to class and do the homework due the next day. All the tests are exactly like the practice tests so if you do all of those you're set. Make sure to write exactly how you worked out your answers on exams for the quality bonus!
Professor Cooper is a hilarious professor. He engages students in his lectures and tells a lot of jokes. I do wish that he would have discussed how to do some of the more difficult homework problems in class but most weren't important to his tests anyways. He supplies practice midterms and finals.. Take advantage because they are a huge lifesaver.
I had Cooper for 34A in the fall of 2018. I thought it was a great class! The first 2/3rds of the class isn't really calculus, more of applied algebra (lots of word problems). If you enroll in CLAS you will probably do fine. He's a very good lecturer and kept my attention, even for a 9am math class.
Cooper is a great professor! He makes the class as fun and entertaining as it can be for a math class. He is a very fair grader. For example, you can do horribly on the midterms, but if your grade on the final is a C or above, you have a possibility of getting B in the class. Overall would definitely recommend.
You can tell Cooper really does care for the students and does want you to pass. But he is a little nutty, however he tries to help you out. He gives a good amount of homework, and I wont lie his test can be difficult. But if you pay attention you should be able to pass. The word problems are the most diffcult but the class gets easier!
Great man, easy class if you pay attention. You just need to be able to work through his word problems which are the only difficult things in his class.
Great professor, funny as well. Makes sure everyone understands the topic, encourages people to ask questions.
This class is very heavy on the word problems but theyre in the basic algebra area of math. Having taken calculus in high school before this class defiantly helped. He gives you credit for iclickers every class which makes up a good portion of the grade. Super nice and funny! Love Daryl! Gives opportunity to replace low midterms with the final !
lectures are iggghhht. the tests, lectures, and hw have no correlation whatsoever. sucks that its at 9am but just show up for those clicker points. half the test are word problems so good luck honeys. cooper is what you can call eccentric and nutty but cool ya know lots of jokes during lectures (british accent makes it better)
smh bad
I took Math 34B with Professor Cooper and was pretty nervous considering I hadnt taken math since AP Calculus junior year of HS. Needless to say, he made all of the class material clear and the book was a really helpful resource with practice problems and answers. He really encourages student participation and wants ALL of the students to pass.
good teacher and it was an awesome experience :)
