I hated this class. By far the most painful math class I have ever taken. Daryl tries way too hard to be funny and treats us like children. He managed to "unteach" me things that I have concretely known since 7th grade and now I find them confusing because I was forced to do it a specific way. If you have a brain, don't take this class with him.
34A was pretty easy if you do the homework and go to CLAS, but I really struggled in 34B. Luckily, Daryl (he makes us call him that) is incredibly accessible outside class. Halfway through winter quarter I panicked and he helped me immensely during his office hours, and gave me the confidence I needed to pull off a B in his class.
Very good teacher would 100% recommend
This class is really easy because Cooper always releases practice tests that highly resemble the actual test. All you need to do to get an A is do the homework, practice tests, and study a little. He even let's you bring a notecard to the exams. The only thing that EVERYONE HATES ABOUT HIM is that he tries too hard to be funny and relatable.
literally amazing, go to CLAS and do practice tests and ur j chillin. hes super funny, please laugh at his jokes.
So, this quarter I am enrolled in Math 3A with Professor Avetisyan, a miserable excuse for a professor and an unqualified bum. It made me realize how amazing Daryl is at is job and I miss his detailed lectures and funny jokes. Daryl is extremely underrated, take his class if you get the chance or else you're missing out on the best math class at SB
Daryl Cooper does his best to make a boring subject engaging. He's funny, kind, and enthusiastic about his job. The tests can be difficult, so do the practice exams. Go to sections and class and you'll pass.
He is a nice professor and easy B as he will curve you up! Take him!
Cooper is by far the happiest and enthusiastic professor I've had so far here. He's always willing to help and is easily accessible if you need help. Throughout every single lecture, he is full of jokes and humor. I did not feel he taught that well, but the concepts can be easily self taught. Easy B with little effort. Would recommend!
If you aren't naturally good at math, you'll struggle in this class but as long as you really study you should be fine. Besides that, Daryl is a great professor, and you'll always remember him as that crazy/funny math professor you had.
DARYL was such a great professor! I had him for two quarters and he always make me laugh (in a dad joke kind of way). The class wasn't too hard but don't try to skip a bunch because you will easily get behind. 34A was mostly AP Calc AB and 34B was similar to AP Calc BC.
Great class, the professor is easily accessible. Tells funny jokes halfway through the lecture to keep students awake. Encourages students to ask questions for clarification.
Great professor. Very caring and you can tell he really wants everyone to do well in his class.
Great professor, took his two quarters and loved the class. He really seems to care and makes an effort to make class interesting.
Daryl is a great professor - easily one of my favorites. Lectures are mandatory (iclicker) but they're very bearable and he incorporates a few jokes here and there which keep things pretty entertaining. One of the few classes I don't hate. Textbook isn't mandatory but recommended tbh. He's very clear and precise. His goal is for everyone to pass.
Daryl obviously understands that most students in the 34 series aren't math majors and most don't have much prior calc experience and he makes a huge effort to pass most of his students. If you at least try in the class (attempt most homework & bring iclicker) he will give you a B if you get at least a C on the final. Funny and cares about students
Good professor, knows how to engage the class. Takes questions throughout lecture to explain anything that needs clarifications/
Cooper is a great teacher as long as you attend the lectures and a willing to learn. Homework is a bit heavy but necessary to understand the content.
Daryl is super caring. Funny lectures, manages to make math lectures not too boring. If you go to office hours and talk to him hell always help you out. Goes out of his way to help students even if you dont go to office hours and its very clear he wants everyone to do well
The level of difficulty of this class really depends on if your good at math or not. I SUCK at it, but i still passed the class! At the end of the quarter he does his best to help you pass the class when it comes to giving you a grade. Work your butt off and you'll pass the class! His tests are way harsher than the practice ones (evil!)
Daryl is a great guy, he's super funny and friendly. The class was pretty difficult because Im bad at math but he offers a curve if you participate throughout the quarter. The midterms/final are a lot more complex than the hw and practice midterms.
Cooper is such a great professor. His teaching can sometimes be difficult to understand if you haven't taken Calc before, if you have then you're set. He wants you all to pass he offers extra credit, his tests can be difficult. Make sure you do the practice exams. I came 1 hour late to the final and let me take it and offered me extra time after.
Makes a lot of jokes during lectures
Tries to be funny in class and has nice jokes sometimes. If you go to lecture, do your homework, and attend section and do at least decently on the midterms, he'll probably give you a b. Most stuff he covers in class are just simplified versions of what he expects you to know on the midterms and posted on gauchospace.
