He's an amazing professor the most down-to-earth, and friendliest professor at UCSB. He tells a joke at every lecture and prefers you call him by his firat name. Sure matierial got tough at times but he kept class interesting. His classes are designed for you to pass rather than fail. He cares about his students and how well he teaches them. He's a
Cooper wants each student to succeed so he curved our class to your advantage; either you take your cumulative grade (homework, 3 midterms, attendance, and final), or you can take the grade on your final as your overall grade for the class. The 2nd option motivated a lot of students to study hard and really understand the material in order to pass.
Daryl's method of teaching is, quite frankly, awful. Unclear, uninteresting and often downright stupid (not to mention i clicker!). Sections were a complete waste of time, TA never had a clue what Cooper wanted her to teach. Practice midterms and final in the book are the only decent parts of this class. Learned very little. Avoid at all costs.
I have always hated math, so coming into this course I was apprehensive. Soon enough this it actually became one of my favorites. It was hard at times, but the practice midterms and finals REALLY helped. Daryl really wants everyone to succeed and he DEFINITELY keeps the class interesting! See you in 34B !
Daryl is an amazing professor, he made the class interesting and the material was taught well. Also his jokes were awesome :) Thanks Daryl! and see you in 34B
without a doubt cooper is an extremely sweet and caring man. his grading is awesome, however if you do poorly on midterms then sucks for you. his method of teaching was not so hot. i felt this class was pretty difficult. and discussions don't help and are a waste of time.
I found this class easy, moreso because I knew some of the material already. However, I felt everything was taught at an understandable and good pace. DARYL also really cares about his students. I love that.
Daryl really cares about his students and teaching. He tries to make his class fun by telling jokes. I thought he was a great professor. Get the book because the practice tests in the back are just like the actual ones you take, and the webwork homework questions are from the book (with the answers) too!
Great teacher. Best math class I have ever had. Made class interesting with jokes. This calculus class is a piece of cake!
Very Nice teacher. I have to admit that he does care for his students. However I think the course went way too fast for the amount of information of the course. Nonetheless great professor.
awesome proffesor ... if i pass the class ill b takin math 34b n i know its gona be hard but with a teacher that makes it fun its worth it haha
Daryl, i would like to take the time to thank you so much for the effort you put forth in helping students. i am a freshman this year and have never even taken pre-cal. i came into this class hoping for the best and expecting the worst. this by far was the best and most favorable class i have and am extremely excited for 34b. you taught me so much
Great Professor! Class was hard, but then again it's Calculus so it's gonna be difficult. Daryl an interesting professor though, always knew how to spice class up!! Thanks Daryl! Ur one of the best!
Sick professor. I'm sure the material would have been that much easier if i had actually gone to class. I regret it, go to class!
He was pretty funny and wanted to make class fun. The only issue is, it was really hard to understand the concepts when he went so fast. We would do iClickers and I'd be so busy trying to click in rather than really understand the concepts. During office hours he wouldn't help me, but wanted me to figure it out, but I'd already been trying!
Really like this professor.
professor cooper is a great guy. it's my first year at UCSB but he sure made it exciting. i actually like math now.
The class was better than i expected. This is my second time taking math 34a and so I was afraid it would be like the last time i took the class. However, Cooper makes it so that the material he presents is clear. And i liked that around the time when my mind cannot concentrate on what he says, he would tell a joke.
Has an actual passion for teaching.. will answer any questions that people shout out in class.. makes math interesting with his corny jokes and british accent. Discussion is mandatory because theres a quiz every week and lecture has iclickr. Not a bad math class at all.
3rd midterm and final are alike and are the only tests that deal with calculus. they werent really as difficult as the people here mentioned. all other tests are basic math, but they are WORD PROBLEMS! theres a lot to do, but its really worth nothing of your grade: hw every MWF, quiz every wk, attendance points, 3 midterms. CLAS helps!
The professors really goofy and is quite entertaining especially because of his british accent. He has a genuine love for math and tries his best to teach it which makes learning a lot more easier. make sure you go to section and to class because attendance is mandatory since the iclicker is used in class. overall a great class!
Cooper is one of those special professors who truly has a passion for thier subject and wants everyone to love it as much a they do. His accent is very entertaining and holds the class' attention.
He's a good professor, although the jokes can be a little distracting at some points. The lectures include use of an iclicker, which he also uses as a means to keep track of attendance. I didn't go to a single section, and I got an A in the class because he offers the option of making your grade on the final 100% of your total grade.
Great teacher, he's goofy, the songs he plays in the morning are corny but funny. Easy A if you pay attention during lecture and go to section. Extremely generous with grades, study for final and you will pass for sure. Tells jokes during lecture and i they're funny even though some people think they're dumb. Overall great teacher, Easy A Loved it!
