Cooper is super helpful. He answers all of your questions on the spot and explains the problems in a way that everyone will understand. He is not terribly hard, nor incredibly easy. He will help you understand calculus in a way that makes sense to you. He tells some funny jokes too haha

His accent made it a bit hard to understand what he was saying. The textbook was used a lot. Attending lectures and section is smart if you want to pass the class.

The examples he gives us are useful but he gives you barely any time to write them down and doesn't always explain concepts well. Laugh at his interesting jokes, do NOT talk during lecture (rude!), and enjoy the British accent.

MATH34A . 13 Years Ago

The best math teacher I have had by far. Math is not my subject, but I was actually able to understand the class and do really well.

Cooper is pretty great. He is funny and keeps lectures interesting, however, his lecture slides can be fairly unclear at times and he doesn't explain things as much as he could. The tests are pretty fair though, as is the grading.

He's a really fun guys, always telling jokes. gives extra credit opportunity on all tests, curves your grade at the end quite a lot as long as you put in effort in class (a.k.a. do homework, go to section, etc.) awesome guy!

His British accent may keep it hard to concentrate & his jokes aren't always funny, but if you get a C in the class, but attend all lectures and sections...he will give you a B. It is worth taking. :)

The class is pretty easy and he's a pretty chill professor (as professors go). The nice thing about the class is that if you didn't completely understand lecture, he wrote the book we use so there's no gap between lecture and the textbook like most classes.

Cooper made math so much fun. He has funny videos and jokes and its even fun listening to his accent. The class was fairly easy, there was homework due every other day but it seems like as long as you try the problems then he will give you credit for doing them. Excellent overall. Sad he isn't teaching 34B next quarter. :(

Good math teacher who cares about if the class gets it or not. He makes things as simple as possible and even throws in a few jokes while doing it

Homework due every other day. Lectures will help alot but still need textbook for answers. Go to CLAS for doing review midterms or help on homework problems. Review is similar to midterm. GO CLAS for study guide and you will do fine. Provide one free note card. REALLY wanna ACE it go to TA office hours and ask to go over review(easy A)

I would definitely recommend Professor Cooper to anyone who needs to take 34A. He kept class interesting, was very entertaining, and dare I say, made calculus fun. I think that he presented the material very well, and that more than anything, I learned how to apply derivatives to real life situations.

Hilarious professor in all respects and he's quite literally a mad genius who takes pleasure in challenging (and tormenting) his students. GREAT professor, who gives his students a practical and interesting perspective. His class is definitely challenging, but very worth it.

He's very willing to answer questions; really nice guy. His slides show step-by-step solutions, which is really helpful; he posts up his slides after his lecture. Show a lot of effort in his class (show up to discussion, participate in iclickers, and do the homework) and he'll account it into the grades and boost you up a few academic points.

He is really good teacher who makes the class entertaining (with some great jokes). My only insult would be, if you want to learn math and how to apply it, do not take the 34 series. The 34 series teaches you nothing that is applicable.

Cooper's a good teacher. His powerpoint slides show how to answer the questions with clear steps, which definitely help you earn those bonus points on the midterms/final! I definitely recommend choosing him as a professor because he tries to entertain as well.

I wasn't looking forward to taking this class but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. D.A.R.Y.L applied real-life problems to everything we learned making it a lot more interesting. I learned a lot from him and have a different perspective on Calculus and how it relates to the world around me. Tests aren't too bad if you study. I recommend CLAS

Good teacher, better comedian. Practice tests are exact same format as actual tests.

Professor cooper is funny and really great at teaching! He explains everything very well in class. You should go to class because iclicker points could boost you from a c- to a b or b+. this class can be hard for some people, but there are plenty of campus resources to help you if you are struggling (CLAS, drop-in). good luck! Prof Cooper rocks!

Cooper is funny and keeps his students entertained. His teachings help a lot exspecially if you have never taken calculus. He's a good teacher and probably is the clearest on his teaching out of the professors who teach calculus at UCSB.

I liked his sense of humor it eased the nerves for me for math because it is my worst subject, a little more of an in depth explanation on problems during lecture would help but his step by step online posts also help along with CLAS. Overall a good professor!

A cool guy with an interesting personality. However, he's an awful teacher, relying almost entirely on a battalion of iClicker questions to do the teaching for him. You're honestly better off giving someone your iClicker, skipping lecture, and going to CLAS instead. Also, this class is easy! Homework is always harder than the tests, which are cake
