Lectures are pretty good. Class is not an easy A, need to be around an 85%, ie 30% over the average. Very nice though, definitely will help you out if you ask. Tests are pretty easy, if you understand homework, easy 100.

Thomas **** is not a particularly good chemistry prof, and no one really learns much from his lectures. To get a "C" you only need to have around a 21% in the class. It's hard to get an "A" though, and I'm not sure if he gives out pluses, because my grade was at least 20% higher than a friend of mine taking the class, and we both received "B's"

got F's on both midterm and final, but still managed to get a C. lectures are useless, barely learned anything. just go to the labs. those help

Prof. **** is one of the sweetest professors I know. Will answer every single email you send him, no matter what time or what about. A bit old, but he tries his best and loves teaching. Curve is generous, but you gotta work for an A. He's sooo helpful in office hours, though. Sweet guy. 7/10

Don't go to lecture. the curve is ridiculous

eh, just okay. the cheat sheet is a godsend, but he's sometimes hard to understand.

To get an A solid (not minus), you only need to get an 84/85 average on each test. I speak from experience. If you took AP Chem in high school, you are all set. I also speak from experience on this one. Chem 1B is a little more difficult than Chem 1A.

I got a high F on the midterms, and and F on the final and still somehow got a P. The curve is amazing. He does not teach THAT well, but he is VERY generous with the curve. Never went to lecture, only CLAS. His tests are very similar to notes and homework.

Going to lecture is not really necessary. Homework is easy. Tests are easy. Go to CLAS instead of lecture and you will do fine. Read the book to make sure you get an A.

ok so i don't know why people here say that he's hard...he's very easy if you go to class. he lets you have a cheat sheet on exams and if you need extra help go to CLAS

I don't know why people post such things about ****. He is not the best professor, but he isn't the worst.Yes, sometimes it is difficult to understand lecture, but deal with it and to CLAS. The thing is, people expect the professors to do all the work, and then they complain. Instead of complaining people should open their Chem book and read it!

grading curve makes it impossible to fail. pretty much need to learn everything yourself.

**** is probably the worst teacher I have encountered in Santa Barbara. But, I passed the class! I went to 2 lectures and didn't open the text book once. Sign up for CLAS and go to that 2 times a week instead of lecture. He doesn't give homework. I got a 65 and a 72 on the midterms (not sure what I got on the final) and came out with a B-.

crazy curve. wants everyone to pass. always extended the hw deadline. very hard to understand bc he mumbles. hard to get an A. he's a sweet man but just isnt a good prof in general.

His grading scale is the best. One of my friends accidentally slept through a midterm, did okay on the other two tests and still passed the class.

ughhhh never went to class. just CLAS. he seems like a sweet old man, but he needs to just retire already...

He's a nice guy, but don't go to class. Just read from the book (really well) and make sure you know the main concepts. Go to CLAS!

hard class if your not into science. lectures not required, read the book. professor impossible to understand or learn from, but extremely nice guy. curves immensely if you only need a C (something like a 25 % is necessary to pass).

I dont know what the deal is with all of the hate for him. He gives us a lot of breaks and wants us all to do well. Sure, hes not the best lecturer, but hes doing things at the best of his abilities at this age in his life.

Really nice person, but lectures were not very helpful. Also, if you take this class sit in the front because it is difficult to hear if you sit in the back.

you learn absolutly nothing by going to lecture, he by far the worse chem professor. He mumbles on and goes off on tangents, although it is nearly impossible to fail the class. His class definatly made me change my mind about being a bio major, if you actually need to know chem or want to know chem do NOT take him, only if u just need to pass.

I showed up to three lectures and the midterms, barely touched the book and got a B in the class. Yes, the curve is that crazy and CLAS helps a ton if you actually go. He's hard to understand and killed my desire to become a bio major, but at least his class is easy to pass.

**** is horrible. he mumbles the whole time and just does problems and expects you to understand all of chemistry from his example problems. some of these problems will appear on test. if you are not good at chemistry, go to CLAS. if you can understand what seems to be happening, his tests are relatively simple. CURVE IS HUGE! 400pts. 80-300 is C
