go go power rangers
Not worth attending this professor's lectures. It's an absolute waste of time. Pretty much all my friends, and I, skipped his class, preferring to instead attend other teacher's lectures or simply not attend at all. How can we do so? Because the online homework Aleks teaches you all you need to know. It was great not to have to attend a class...
Don't let 'his lectures teach nothing' comments fool you. Sure he curves the class so that you could pass even without taking the final, but that doesn't mean getting higher than a C+ will be easy. People say go to CLAS if you want to do better but even the tutors seem pretty hopeless. If you want to do good, hope you had a good AP Chem teacher.
you needed 16% in the class for a C-
Old. Boring. I think this class made me dumber.
Don't bother going to lecture it will be a waste of time. Reading the book is the only chance you will have at passing. The tests are multiple choice and not very easy. If it wasn't for the curve I don't think anyone would be able to pass.
Easy to pass the class, but difficult to get an A. CLAS is a must if you want to do better than a C. Going to lecture is useless, just read the book and take CLAS. Tests are difficult multiple choice.
There is no point of attending the class, i rather read the book and go to CLAS. Thank CLAS. However, his exams are easy, also it was really nice of him to let people pass his class with such a bad score on their exams.I feel he jsut want everyone to pass his class.
It was almost completely pointless to go to class. CLAS did a great job of teaching the material and teaching what he includes on his tests. He isn't very helpful in office hours; he can literally talk for hours with almost no prompting. "Back in the 1960's..."
Horrible professor, best adopted grandpa.
If you want to pass, take Hooker. If you want to learn take someone else!! He's a nice old man and easy to talk to. However he can't teach chemistry well at all. He has a ridiculous curve that makes it impossible to fail.
As far as lectures, forget it. There's nothing to be gained from the slides he reads. The text is solid, concepts are pretty well explained. As long as you do the homework and use his practice tests from his archives on the Chemistry webpage, you should be able to pull of a B.
Class is not helpful at all. You just have to read the book and do the problems he assigns. ridiculously easy to get a C, actually quite difficult to get an A. Just be prepared to teach everything to yourself.
pretty boring in class. CLAS is a must. Going to lecture is basically him reading stuff off an overhead that he got from the book. Doesnt really explain much. Decent curve, easy to pass kind of hard to do well. The class felt like lemmings going into the final.
Lectures are a total waste of time because he is difficult to understand and reads to you whats on the slide. I only went to class for the first week, the midterms, and the final, and got a B. Just read the book and do the hw.
Nice guy. Poor lecturer. Does not explain difficult concepts nor does he explain how to do the problems well. He can also be hard to understand in a crowded lecture hall. CLAS is a must. If you don't get in, you'll have to teach yourself everything. He does have a very generous curve, so passing is fairly easy(50%). Again, nice guy - poor lecturer.
Though the curve is very good, do not take this class unless you are okay with just a passing grade or have the time to self-teach everything. Though he's nice, it is impossible to decipher his mumbles and record his speed-demon projector notes simultaneously
He really is a sweet old man, but he is completely incoherent. I was able to pass the class only by utilizing CLAS and the major curve. There actually was a mixup with my grade at the end of the quarter and I got an F when I should have received a B-. In turn I was dropped from Chem 1B/1BL and had to crash them at the start of winter quarter.
Never gives pop quizzes which is great. I went to class 4 times: the first day, the two midterms, and the final. I got a B+ from my previous experience in AP Chem. The Online homework system sucks though.
Nice guy, but man oh man. Didn't learn a THING from him. Not to be mean and not even exaggerating. Not an easy A. But his curve to pass the class (get a C) is ridiculously high! So if all you need is to pass the class, then you should probably get him as your teacher. But if you want to learn, avoid him at all costs. Only CLAS helped me. got a B bt
Going to class is pointless. You can't understand anything he says. Notes on the overhead are useless. Midterms aren't easy but not hard. Go to CLAS to keep up.
terrible. if you're a slacker you will thrive; if you're a hard worker you'll be VERY frustrated. lectures are useless, and the midterms are easy but are graded mercilessly by TAs cuz Prof doesn't even look at them. The 2nd midterm had an ambiguous Q-- discourages thoughtfulness, just rote learning. nice on outside, tho. Honest studious ppl, AVOID.
i have never even bothered going to class unless it is a midterm. Lecture attendance is definitely useless. Just read the book for 10 minutes and its equivalent to a lecture
After seeing many people go through him, I got him for my last genchem quarter. You can easily sleep listening to him, so I recommend CLAS and attending another lecture while still with him. Cheat sheets were great! Free response midterms were SO EASY, but his MC final kinda kills. Still got an A though =] opened the book just for Webassign HW.
