Skips through slides whenever he feels like not talking about it in lectures, then tests us on the stuff he's skipped over. Tests are WAYY hard!! Hardest Psych class there is.
reading was boring, lecture was boring, and one of the reasons why i changed majors. On the positive side, it will test your commitment to the major. I got a B, but had no fun out of the class, in a subject i thought i loved.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. WAIT UNTIL A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR TEACHES IT. Tests are extremely difficult and the class is curved a lot because of this. Takes too much work, too much time, and you will probably get the A you want by waiting for a different professor to teach the course.
You learn a lot in this class, but be prepared to work. The curve is determine by the department because you have to take this class to enter the major. Lots of competition for grades.
WORST CLASS/TEACHER THAT IVE HAD HERE AT UCSB. Psych 108 is really hard and avoid it if you can because its one midterm and final that he has to curve greatly because of the difficulty.
WORST professor on the earth. Lets students out early but then complains we don't have any time. Never prepared for lecture. The midterm was written as if it was done by a first grader, mistakes everywhere. Grades had to be fixed numerous times. Confusing slides, rely on the book! Use the website of the book and do the quizzes on there! Seriously.
Studied fairly hard and utilized all resources at hand. Slides in lecture aren't his own, resulting in material during lecture that has little coherence to test/book material. Tends to rant in class.Tests are horrific, not inherently difficult but confusing and thrown together full of errors. He's a nice guy, but Russel sucks at teaching. C'mon son
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! goes on countless random tangents, doesn't prepare his own slides 1/2 the time he doesn't know what he's saying. Midterm was confusing and "he" messed up on a lot of the questions that it had to be regraded twice. Very hard to write notes for the class-pretty much relied on the textbook and AS notes
Class was freaking hard. Luckly I took Human Memory at the same time so you pretty much learn the same thing which helped alot. you HAVE TO READ the book, half the questions come from it. He is a sweet older man, but not the best teacher. Hes very confusing
Hardest course I've ever taken. Made note cards for the entire 500+ page text book, attended every class, and bought the AS notes and barley passed. Tests are tricky. 1 midterm and 1 final. Luckily there was a curve or I would have not passed. Don't take this class unless you have a lot of time to spare.
If you can avoid this class I suggest you do. He is very disorganized, his lectures do not make sense half the time. The reading is extensive and he expects you to practically memorize the book. If you have to take this class it is do-able but there are much much better psych classes at UCSB.
This is not an easy class. He is a very disorganized person and taking notes in class is pretty much useless(just get the AS notes). The book is around 500 pages and you must read it cover to cover to pass. Exams are difficult as well so make sure to study hard.
revlin is absolutely hilarious. great psych 1 teacher. reading the book is pretty much mandatory because test examples are about 50%/50% from textbook and lectures. information is really interesting and his funny examples make the class fun.
He is very strict, tests come mostly from the reading, and his practice tests in class are deceivingly easy compared to the actual midterm/final. I came to him for help after the midterm because I didn't do very well and he basically told me that I should just drop the class or try harder. Awesome. I definitely do NOT recommend him at all.
Best advice: listen and understand his examples, as well as read your text book. His midterm and text have half examples from his lecture and half from the book. He's kinda funny too, so that's a plus.
Lecture was not the most interesting thing in the world but the class was fair and I learned a lot. The tests seemed very hard but I ended up doing well on both.
I love Revlin! He's cute with a sense of humor. He grades very fair. Take notes on what he's saying & buy AS Notes to get PP slide info. Just midterm (1/3 of grade)/final (2/3 of grade) both were M/C. 1/2 test info comes from lecture & 1/2 from text. Know key terms & main concepts. Just don't wait to start studying the night before. Got an A.
Do not take any classes taught by Revlin! His lectures are very unorganized and unhelpful as are his exams. His exams are curved, which can be helpful, but his lectures are extremely boring.
This dude seriously sucks at teaching. I got by with a B- and never opened the book, but regardless his teaching style stinks. He needs to take lecture notes from Stan Klein.
Not the most organized, but people who complain are just haters who probably are too stupid to study. The material on the test was mostly from the book. If you go to lecture and do the reading, you'll do fine. The guy is actually kinda funny.
Seriously, this class was ridiculous! Going to lecture every time didnt help at all with the tests and neither did the book. I didnt learn anything NEW at all and still somehow got c's on both tests. The tests were full of mistakes but he didn't seem to care at all. DONT TAKE IT!
Great in lecture, but the tests are very unorganized, the midterm should have been taken away because they messed it up so badly with many questions with wrong answers. Don't take this professor.
Unorganized. Tests were extremely unorganized, misworded and with materiial that was not covered in class or book. This teacher does not care about teaching the students and so does not teach. Avoid. I received a B from guessing.
Terrible class. Teacher always late, sometimes only 20 minutes of a 75 minute lecture. Tests all screwed up and didn't throw them away even though it was professor and TA's fault. Don't take this teacher.
