Take this guy during the summer; in smaller classes, he tells entertaining stories about his RAF days and what they eat in Scotland. His appreciation of Keynes is beyond me, but at least he doesn't use (ugh) PowerPoint.

Lecture quality is good. Picks on people in class which I find to be beneficial since being on the spot makes people think. Test can be hard depending on the taker. Pretty funny. "By no circumstances do you want the French protecting your left flank," classic line. The man drives a 1967 mustang and always wears a pair of slippers. Enough said.

Classical theoretical econ, as slurred by a hilarious, vitrolic, sometimes mean-spirited coot. Intimidating, but not too hard, just relax and study early, go to lectures, and don't miss quizes in section (I missed all of them). We have polar opposite political views, though people just need to lighten up and enjoy his brand of entertaining madness.

The class is fairly hard, but if you go to all the lectures and read the text you should do good. Getting an A in the class I think is fairly hard. Crouch knows the subject insanely well! I have learned a ton from him - even though he is not the easiest professor, you will learn a lot! After all, he was the economics advisor for Regan in the 1980s

Don't listen to all the fools who didn't like the class or the professor because it was hard. I agree that the class is hard, but if you go to lectures, read the text, you will do fine. Most important, you will know more economics than people who didn't have Crouch. He teaches everything you need to know. Very good professor, and funny too.

Okay, I'm graduating in couple of days and I have this to say about Crouch: In hindsight, he's the best professor I've had in UCSB. Was he the nicest? no. Was he the most helpful? no. But what he DID was he taught me the material inside and out. If you get an A in this class by genuinely studying hard, Economics will only get easier as you progress

You either love him or hate him. I had Bergstrom for Econ 1, and that was terrible. Crouch is way better. Talks way too fast, but as long as you listen in lecture you get the idea. Study hard for the midterm and final. He's really not as bad as everyone thinks he is.

"Take a 30 second break (4 secs later) ceteris paribus that was 30 seconds." Funny old brit, very straightforward. Can be hysterical. Reader sucks, everything is learned in section and lecture. Grading is tough, must perform well on tests. Watch out in the first 4 rows, you'll get called on, and might get called a bloody fool. I liked him.

this dude make about as much sense as a static Pink Floyd song on the radio; the reader some kind of demonic joke; luckily, the material is pretty much cake - just learn everything from the TAs

I took this class because Pol. Sci Major requires it. Unfortunately, i could not have had a worse Econ 1 experience than i did with Crouch. His attitude towards teaching is repulsive. I think he should NOT be teaching a beginning Econ class because he just makes his students hate the subject. Avoid. I'm also waiting to take Econ 2 with someone else

lectures are weird and it's hard to understand what he writes. tests are alright and not as hard as he makes them out to be...

I hear people ****ing about the class because its too hard, Crough is mean, and lots of people fail etc. Well, the class is supposed to weed people out of economics who shouldn't be in it in the first place. I found the class clear and interesting and if you don't sit in the first 6 rows he won't ask you a question.

I hated his class. His gradingpolicy was horrible! And I will definately believe he drinks while grading midterms/finals since I only wrote one sentence for my final essay (since I thought I was failing the class anyway) and still passed! I'm still waiting to take Econ 2 becuase he's the only one ever teaching it. I refuse to take his class again!

Hardest class I've ever taken. I've heard something like 50% fail. Don't take him unless you're a masochist.

Says random things like "...a ****en sailor in a Tiajuana ****house on New Year's Eve". Prof. Crouch loves talking about bombs. He mumbles when scribbling things on the overhead and then randomly shouts for a student to answer questions. He also grades Midterms at happy hour at Ebar or can be spotted drinking at OTT and being lurpy. GOOD LUCK

Delightful british accent, haughty neoliberal prick, antiquated ideas on women, ciggarettes, and the poor, but oddly, I love him. You will learn economics, if you study. He also great arguments such as the validity of cocaine legalization and why the minimum wage hurts poor people. Take him.

As a freshman this is the worst possible set of classes you can start off with. This professor is very old and very bad. He has his way of teaching and hasn't changed it in years although it is in desperate need of it. All possible exam questions given prior to exam, but learning them is relearning the entire class. Do not recommend, unless nec.

Funny dry old man! Lectures are easy to follow. Read the reader, go to lecture, study the essay questions = easy A!
