If your serious about learning something take Dr. Bruice. Be prepared to put in some time to actually learn something and it will be a rewarding class. She will instill a logic in your mind to really understand Organic Chemistry. Really great teacher.
Prof Bruice is amazing! she explains everything very clearly. the class in meant to be hard, so you must keep up with the course work. your grade will reflect your knowledge 100%.
Bruice's class is very demanding. If you read and do the homework and understand why that is the answer you should do fine in her class. However if you fall behind in your work good luck trying to do well. You can't cram for her exams and expect to pass. Going to lecture is a must.
Professor Bruice is very knowledgeable and teaches the material very well. Her exams follow the book and her lectures, so you can't help but not do well on them. As far as the negative comments go on here, they are from students who either did not like the material or were lazy in nature. As long as you follow her direction, you will pass.
Out of the three Organic Chem classes I took, she had the most clear and easy to follow class. She is very excited to help with material outside the scope of the class. Not an easy class but the grade reflects ones understanding.
She is an awesome professor! She explains o-chem better than anyone else I've taken. As soon as she explains something, it makes perfect sence! She brings her huge dog to class sometimes, which is cool.
She wrote the ochem book so u better know it fr front 2back.this class requires u2 study ALOT,keep doing practice prob,memorize reactions.she goes really fast but as long as u understand the book then ur all good since she tests right out of it.she also takes the multiple choice ?s off the online site. Overall not a bad prof, better than Aue!

Paula Bruice is a great teacher, she explains things well in class. If you listen carefully you can get hints to what will be on the test. Do all the problems in the book and online. She uses her online questions on midterms. GO TO CLAS. clas helps because they give you past exams. SHe recycles her questions.
As a freshmen all the sophmores kept warning me about Bruice and o-chem... But i took her anyways as a challenge to myself. In the year that i had Bruice, i really began to question all those who told me she was hard. All you have to do is go to class, LISTEN to her and you will do well, and of course CLAS wouldn't hurt.
She can be tough, but as long as you keep up with her in lecture and read her textbook and do all the assigned problems, you can pull off an A. Be prepared to study A LOT. This is not a class you can slack off on. CLAS definitely helps a lot. She brings in her enormous dog, Zues, to lecture once in a while, which I think is pretty neat.

Horrible teacher. She wrote the ochem book that all the teachers use here at ucsb so she expects you to know everything out of it. she really focuses on nomenclature, if you don't know the names of your compounds you won't be able to understand any of her test questions. if you can try not to take her class,any of the other ochemteachers are better
took these two classes last year but forgot to rate.. she only favors good-grades-students and is very mean to those who hv difficulties in studying. expects u to write down everything she SAYS AND WRITES in lectures. i remember her asking "which part do u not understand? if i know it how come u dun know (the materials)?" wat a mean woman...
Very unapproachable and discouraging. Got a D and retook class with another professor and got a B+. Too much material to memorize but if you have good study habits and study every day, everything will stick and you will be okay. Not a class to pull an all nighter for...trust me!
My brain hurts and I will be repeating B in the spring with a different prof.
BRUICE IS THE MOST ORGANIZED PROFESSOR. TOTALLY PREPARES YOU FOR UPPER DIVISION. TEST IS TOTALLY PREDICTABLE. NOTHING TRICKY AT ALL. MOST HELFUL PERSON WITH MEDICAL SCHOOL ADVICE. SHE IS MORE THAN WILLING TO HELP YOU IF YOU JUST ASK. HAVE FUN.
Bruice goes really fast during her lecture, so stay awake and try to write down everything she said, not just the notes she wrote on the board. Her tests are not tricky, doing the book problems and practice tests from CLAS are extremely helpful. However, be aware of the final. It has a lot of multiple choice problems, which I don't think it is fair
Horrible teacher snobish and unapproachable. Has unrealistic expectations for the class with comments like 'u should know this already' I know we're on the quarter system but her teaching style is pretty fast and unorganized. Dont fall behind! Gave an unfair final with the majority of it being multiple choice, since her past test werent like that.
I thought she was the most evil professor ever. I remember talking to her one time when she was talking about increasing the prerequisites for a certain class, and I said, "I guess it's a good thing I already passed that class."
Although her teaching isn't great you got her book to fall on. She is very unapproachable and she seems like a snob. I've heard really bad stories about her as the Med school advisors. definately do not go to her if you need a shoulder to cry on or somebody to be nice.
