Best class at UCSB!
Entrepreneurship class with John was really good. Even though it was a challenging and busy class, I really enjoyed it There were a lot of projects and assignments to do but they were all worth the time. John truly cares about his students and really thinks of ways he can personally help you in order to introduce you to the right people if he can.
very interesting class from a man with extensive experience and a wealth of knowledge in entrepreneurship and business management
Greathouse is one of the most passionate lecturers at UCSB. He is very inspirational to budding entrepreneurs and this class is great at getting your feet wet if you are looking into it. There will be a fair bit of reading and a few easy essays, but if you engage in the material and stay on top of it, you will learn a lot and get an A.
hands down the best professor I had at UCSB. ever.
John Greathouse is one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. yes his classes are going to be hard. And Yes, you're going to learn more than you've ever learned before. His class taught me the fundamentals of entrepreneurship that I now use everyday as the CEO of a 40+ person company just 3 years later.
John gives great lectures and is very approachable. Too often, professors lack real world experience when teaching. John, though has helped build multiple startups to multi-million dollar exits and is a part of one the country's best rated Venture Capital firms, and he is highly regarded in the entrepreneurial community.
His class gave me some of the most transferrable skills learned in the classroom. He really cares about his students and has great life advice. The class is a lot of work, but you really get out of it what you put in, times two. Even after graduating, he helped me with my job search. Invaluable class to take, TAKE IT.
Provided great guidance!
Professor Greathouse isn't just a fantastic teacher in the moment, he cares about your future. This is a guy who will help you with a question about the material in class, and then send you to your future job. I wouldn't be where I am now without him, and my time spent in his classes were unparalleled. Totally recommend to everyone, EVERYONE.
This is a great class. You can tell Professor Greathouse is passionate about teaching and that he really enjoys helping out his students. Material can be repetitive at times but it's definitely worth taking.
Great class. Currently work for a venture capital firm, and I can confirm this class being the reason for me seeking this type of position. Easily the most helpful class I took in college. Entire TMP program is excellent, and should be pushed to more students at UCSB.
Greathouse is the man. He is so well informed in business strategy because of the amount of experience he has. He is open to help you in his office hours and even if you don't have any questions for him I recommend going to them and just listening to the advice he is giving others. Nobody at UCSB has more valuable advice then Greathouse.
He has a really engaging lecture style and the reading material is always relevant. I enjoyed going to this class. Not only is the material of the class conveyed clearly and succinctly, but John gives other lessons that make for a well rounded class. I highly recommend people take this class. It was fantastic!
Take John Greathouse any chance you get
John really makes an effort to give you the tools to succeed as an entrepreneur. I highly recommend you do all the readings and participate in class. The amount of effort you put in is what you will get out of this class so don't waste your time doing the minimal work.
John makes an effort to make the class always fun and interesting. He brings several speakers from his multiple connections in the entrepreneurial community of Santa Barbara and always starts his lectures by letting us know about job opportunities in the area. We had weekly quizzes and assignments to make sure we'd learned and applied the material.
I took his VERY first entrepreneurship course through the TMP program. It was full of great guest lecturers and practical course work. We're still running the company that we workshopped in this class!
I took John's class in 2006. In his class, I worked on a market feasibility study of the company I've been running since my graduation in '07. I can honestly say that I would not be where I am today without John and this class. He is HELPFUL, approachable, direct and kind. I seek his advice to this day and he has always been incredibly responsive.
Great chance to learn skills that apply to life after college. Greathouse runs the class in a way that helps students prepare themselves for work environments and real life circumstances. Not an easy A, but the skills you learn and take away are the most valuable part of the class.
Before taking Greathouse's entrepreneurship course, I never thought I was an entrepreneur. But the course work, his readings, and what he stands for really opened my eyes and made me realize that I am capable of doing much more than the narrow path I set for myself. Experiencing Greathouse's teachings and this course, were life changing.
Greathouse was more of a coach than a professor. His passion for entrepreneurialism and teaching comes through in every lecture and conversation. This class should be a UCSB graduation requirement - it was so good I took every one of his classes and are the only ones with real world application. Highly recommended!
John teaches with an authentic and engaging view of the business world. His outside success in business and entrepreneurial endeavors explains his ability to teach students like young professionals rather than class room test takers. 5 years after graduation, I see his classes as my greatest investment of time, effort and money during college.
Look how many reviewers call him John. His courses were among the most valuable learning experiences I've had at any institution. John is diligent, thoughtful, keeps the subject interesting, and communicates the material very clearly. His guests are top notch, his expertise is world class, and he's a friendly guy to boot. I'd retake these anyday!
