The best professor I have had at UCSB. The subject itself is very interesting but German makes them easy to understand/entertaining by using pop culture ex. No textbook. Go to class so you can learn the details of the studies she presents, or else you'll only get a brief overview which isn't enough info to ace the tests. Lot of ways to get an A
I only had Dr. German for a 1 unit testless transfer seminar course so I can't say how she is in an actual class but I really enjoyed her! She is easy to talk to, knows her stuff and is really creative with innovative and fun homework assigments that didn't even feel like homework because they were enjoyable. I highly suggest her as a professor.
If you can take 10A with her DO IT! You absolutely do not need to buy the book, because she tells you exactly what to look up for the midterm which is extremely easy if you put in effort to study and pay attention. Research proposal is biggest part of grade. She's super sweet and such a mom. Makes things very clear and can't wait to take 10B
Love this prof! I took PSY 10B with her last year and took this course because I was a fan of hers originally. She is very flexible with students, emphasizes importance in participation and has a clear grading criteria with vastly different categories to give students more than one way to succeed. Would definitely take her class again.
An amazing professor. The research proposal is hard but she was very accessible outside the class. Her advice was extremely helpful. Definitely wanna take again.
This class was very stressful for me, but was very rewarding. Lots of assignments that arent so much difficult but tedious and time consuming and worth a small percent of your grade. The final paper is what counts most but if you keep up with the drafts you should be okay. Big group research project and presentation. Be prepared to work hard.
I took both 10A and 10B with Dr. Albada, and she is great! I like her teaching style but I never go to lectures (because I'm lazy, don't be me), yet I still got decent grades (A-). Take this class with her!
Dr. Woods is super enthusiastic when she teaches, which makes learning a lot more fun. I wish every professor would have this passion for helping their students understand what is being taught. By far my favorite class that I have taken at UCSB.
Dr. Albada is an all-around solid professor. She communicates clearly and effectively at a reasonable pace. Knows her stuff. I wasn't like OMG SHE'S THE BEST but you know, she's cool. Grading is reasonable, too.
Cares a lot about making material digestible for students. All around super sweet lady. Only thing I have to say is that she doesn't do the best job at showing students how to do the calculations. Gives the equation, but doesnt show you how to calculate anything then marks you down on Hw for doing calculations wrong.
She is a new teacher to UCSB so there were some hiccups with her grading style due to this but otherwise it was a pretty solid class. It was definitely not easy but if you put in a lot of work, ask TA's for help with homework and go to office hours you can do well. My biggest complaint would be the grading but hopefully this gets perfected soon
She's honestly meh. Her lectures do not really line up with the textbook so it is a little weird. she is really helpful though!
This class is so much work. Seriously the most stressful class Ive taken at UCSB. I feel like she can make it simple but chooses to make it completely difficult with so many assignments. If you do everything you should get an a but be prepared to be really stressed out because this class is unbelievably stressful. I dont recommend.
Dr. Woods is great! She made 8am lectures worth attending. She really cares about your success and helps you understand research in psychology. The research proposal is extensive and a significant amount of your grade but it makes the class interesting. But sometimes her lecture slides are unclear and do not correlate with what she's talking about
Lectures heavily and simple topics take about a week to get through. She could definitely speed it up and not over complicate things but it wasn't that big of a deal. The tests really weren't that hard at all especially if you read the textbook and memorize the bold terms/ lecture slides. Research paper is graded tough. Midterm is like practice one
Dr. Albada is new to UCSB and shes a great professor. Her examples and the way she explains make statistics easy. The class is not an easy A, but its defintely achievable if you put the work in. I highly recommend her.
Shes pretty average. The textbook was disgustingly long and boring. The lectures are easy to follow but she does talk a lot to get a simple point across (Three lectures on one topic). Tests were pretty difficult. Curves slightly at the end. Make sure you do well on the paper because I bombed the tests but did really well in the paper.
Dr. Albada is new to UCSB but she's a pretty solid choice. Her tests were kind of tricky and she had some really hard questions that were poorly worded. But overall, she's very accessible and helpful during office hours and if you do all the hw diligently and read the textbook, you'll get a solid grade.
This class is a ridiculous amount of work. She makes you do so much. The paper itself isn't as difficult but there are a lot of assignments here and there. Also an unnecessary midterm on top of all the other assignments we had to do.
An ok professor. Mostly reads off slides but will answer questions if you have them. Is available for office hours. Tests are pretty difficult. Textbook was boring and awful to read. Final research proposal is graded very very hard. Go to section!
She's super nice and helpful during office hours. Concepts weren't hard but the exams definitely were.
Attendance is definitely not mandatory. She spends a lot of time over-complicating rather simple concepts but then tests you on much harder concepts. Most people who've taken 10A agree that her lecture style is poor. She is rather friendly and it seems like she cares about her students though, so there's that.
Dr. Woods made what would have been very boring material interesting. She is enthusiastic, and truly cares what she is talking about. Office hours were super helpful, she helped me come up with my paper design and gave me her full attention. Her tests are tricky, make sure you know all of the vocab, she gives a lot of A+B or A+C options
Learn your receptors! Going to class and paying attention will only get you so far. Redraw the diagrams and make sure you have a good system for remembering the different drugs covered. Tests were extremely fair and not meant to trick you at all. Grade is made of a midterm, one paper and the final. Both tests multiple choice.
