CollegeVery great class, highly recommend
This class was very chill, and I really enjoyed how engaging the lectures were. I learned a lot about things that are relevant in my life. He gives plenty of opportunities for everyone to do well, such as extra credit and retakes on the major quizzes. I participated in the extra-credit research assignment, and I enjoyed that. Overall, great class.
I took 160 and 185 with Joe and got As in both. You need good multiple choice skills and a solid understanding of the material for his tests, but if you can derive the mechanics of the reading, Bs/As are possible on them and he gives ample EC opportunities. Extremely respected in his field, super kind, and loves to talk to students. 160 is AMAZING!
He's inconsistent with material on tests, always contradicting himself too. in class where he went over the answer to one of his questions and couldnt remember the correct answer when he literally made the test question himself. its just hard to respect teachers that try to trick students. quiz 1 was a 60% average btw kinda diabolical for comm
Absolutely rude prof who felt "disrespected" that I missed one singular class due to me playing sports here at UCSB. Quite literally dropped me despite having an excusal form for this SINGULAR missed class & it being my last quarter here before graduation. I pleaded to him, saying I needed the units/class in order to graduate but still dropped!
His quizzes are tough, but he gives extra credit. Joe provided me with research assistant opportunities and wrote me an amazing rec letter for law school. If you ask him for help, he will help. He has so much experience in this field and is very passionate about helping students and pushing them to learn more. By far my favorite professor I've had.
