This Privacy Policy explains what information UCSBPlat collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.
Last updated: August 14, 2026When you use UCSBPlat, we may collect limited technical information such as pages visited, visit time, browser and device details, and general usage activity on the site.
If you choose to sign in or use account-related features, we may also process the information needed to provide those features, such as your name, email address, or profile image, depending on the sign-in method you use.
UCSBPlat tracks page visits and related usage activity for analytics. This helps us understand which pages are used, measure traffic, diagnose performance issues, and improve the site over time.
Analytics data is used for internal measurement and product improvement. We do not sell this data. We also do not share it with unrelated third parties for their own marketing or commercial use.
Some analytics information may be processed by service providers that help us operate the site and measure traffic, such as analytics infrastructure providers. Those providers process data on our behalf to support UCSBPlat, not to purchase visitor data from us.
UCSBPlat Helper is an optional Chrome extension. It is installed separately, and if you do not install it, nothing in this section applies to you.
When you open the extension and choose Update my Course Data, it opens two pages in UCSB's GOLD using your own signed-in GOLD session — My Schedule and your Major Progress Check — and sends the contents of those two pages to UCSBPlat over an encrypted connection. This happens only when you ask for it. The extension does not read GOLD in the background, does not run on any other website, and cannot see your GOLD password.
Those pages are tied to the UCSBPlat account you are signed in to, and are read once to pull out the structured information below. The page contents themselves are discarded as soon as that is done: they are never saved to your browser, never written to our database, and never recorded in our logs.

We also record that a sync happened, along with how many courses and requirements it contained — a count only, with none of the underlying course information attached.
You can see the exact figures we hold for your own account, and delete them, on your data and privacy settings page.
Your course data is used to show you your own pages in the profile area of UCSBPlat, such as your degree progress and recommended courses. It is not shown to other students. The one place it goes beyond those pages is your own Google Calendar, and only if you ask for that — see the Google Calendar section below.
We do not sell it, transfer it to advertisers, data brokers or information resellers, or use it for advertising or credit decisions. It is not used to train models. UCSBPlat's course and professor statistics come from published university grading data, not from student records.
Your stored course data is not read by people as a matter of routine. UCSBPlat is operated by a small team who can reach the database, and will do so only to fix a fault, investigate abuse or a security problem, help you with something you have asked us about, or where the law requires it.
Adding your classes to Google Calendar is optional and separate from signing in. It happens only if you click Add to Google Calendar on your profile and complete a second Google consent screen, which asks for permission to manage events on your calendar. If you never do that, nothing in this section applies to you.
If you do, we store a Google access token and a refresh token for your account. The refresh token is long-lived: it is what lets UCSBPlat add and remove your class events without asking you to sign in to Google each time. We use it only to create the events for your synced schedule and to take those same events back off again when you ask. Every event we create is marked as ours, and we only ever remove events carrying that mark — entries you made yourself are never touched.
You can disconnect at any time from your data and privacy settings page. Disconnecting removes the events we added, hands the permission back to Google, and deletes the tokens we stored. You can also revoke access directly from your Google account's third-party access settings; if you do that first, we can no longer reach your calendar to remove the events, so you would need to delete those yourself.

Your UCSBPlat sign-in is unaffected by all three, and you can sync again later if you want to. Uninstalling the extension stops any further syncing, but does not by itself delete what was already synced — use the delete options for that.
UCSBPlat's use of information received from the UCSBPlat Helper extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
We use collected information to operate UCSBPlat, maintain security, understand usage patterns, improve features, and troubleshoot bugs or reliability issues.
UCSBPlat and its service providers may use cookies or similar technologies to keep the site functioning, remember certain preferences, and measure traffic and engagement.
UCSBPlat does not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties except when reasonably necessary to run the site, provide requested features, comply with legal obligations, or protect the security and integrity of UCSBPlat.
We use reasonable measures to protect information handled by UCSBPlat. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page when they take effect.
