CollegeHe is incredibly disorganized. He does offer a lot of help in office hours. I would not recommend taking a course with him unless you are really interested in African History specifically.
Great professor and easy to talk to. Extremely knowledgeable and eager to help his students understand the material. Changed my perspective on African history and on other histories I have studied before.
Professor Chikowero is one of the most helpful and easiest professors at UCSB. If you wish to do well in his class, GO TO HIS OFFICE!You can catch him in his office and he is ready to spend a great deal of time to clarify and aid in whatever material you find confusing. Super chill to just talk to about anything and have a few good laughs.
Lecture slides aren't typically posted to Canvas, so you will miss information and possibly an impromptu quiz if you don't go to lecture. This class is reading heavy and the readings are talked about in lecture and in section. In section, you're graded on participation. Be ready to do a lot; especially if it is for a GE.
This class is very heavy on readings and not the best choice for GE. Sections dive deep into the readings, so if you dont do the readings, you're cooked. Also, there are impromptu quizzes, so attendance is technically mandatory.
He is so funny, engaging, and just overall a great professor. It may be difficult to understand him sometimes because of his heavy accent, but he is really kind and willing to dedicate time outside of class to explain/help you out with anything.
