CollegeAfter the first midterm, I had a B+ and did above average... She mentioned the highest scores were of students who came to office hours. I chose to listen and went to 2-3 office hours a week for the last 4 weeks of class. Lectures were at times confusing but the office hours actually saved me, and I cooked on the final, ending with a 96.8%. W Prof!
~85% of final grade is from exams. She's an amazing lecturer and a kind person; office hours are super helpful if needed. Homework is good preparation for weekly quizzes, which are good preparation for the midterm/final. 2 quizzes are dropped, EC on the midterm/final, and from going to the lecture/OH. Homework is due every class, i.e., TR or MWF...
Very good professor. Actually cares and wants students to learn and succeed. Lecture is optional but you get extra credit participation for attending. Section quizzes were fair, midterm was fair especially since you could retake it for up to 75% credit, and final was extremely fair. Very easy going and available outside of class.
Dr. Scroggin is the best math professor I've ever had. She is caring, hilarious, and has a genuine passion for math. There was a lot of homework and quizzes, but they were usually based on the content covered in the lecture and were pretty straightforward. Would 100% take her again in a heartbeat if given the chance.
dr. scroggin is a genuine teacher with great energy and a real love for math who truly cares about her students. this was my first math class at ucsb, and i wouldn't trade her for any other professor. she's engaging, helpful in office hours, and sets you up to succeed. just make sure you practice consistently to stay sharp.
Good lectures and answers questions well. Very easy going and keeps the class interesting and HW and lecture materials isn't too dissimilar from the tests. Gracious with points on exams and grades through errors. Has lots of office hours and was willing to stay overtime to answer questions. Overall great professor and loved the class.
