CollegeSchley cares a lot about his students and is constantly updating his slides and materials. The quizzes were extremely challenging and did not reflect in class material, but a lot of them ended up being dropped. However, this added extra stress and wasn't conducive to learning. The midterms were pretty reasonable but the final was more challenging.
Pretty good overall. His lectures and explanations are quite clear, and he really does try to gauge all the students' understanding. Grade is split between sections, attendance, HW, and then more heavily the two midterms and final. The tests were definitely tough, but no surprises. He makes it clear what to study.
Really wants his students to succeed, quizzes every section were difficult and sometimes unfair but he recognized that and dropped the bottom few grades, even dropped lowest hw grade. Both midterms and the final are completely reasonable and fair. Very invested in teaching the geometry behind vector calculus to get a more complete understanding.
Great guy, however his lectures were hard to follow, so after the second midterm I just stopped going. The class overall was very easy but the section quizzes were very hard. He would either make them ridiculously difficult or the material would straight up just not be what we're learning in lecture. Average of 4/10 on quizzes but ended with an A.
Prof Schley is very passionate about the material he teaches. It took a while for me to get used to his style of teaching as it is very conceptual. Math 6A builds on itself and staying on top of the material is important. Weekly quizzes were difficult and on pretty specific topics but they were only 10% of the grade.
Mr. Schley was a good teacher and was very passionate about his lectures. He always tried to explain the complicated concepts in compressed ways and was very good about answering questions during lectures. That being said, the course material itself is quite complicated, so make good use of him, TAs and CLAS help! Allows index cards on exams!
