CollegeVery good and engaging lecturer, definitely cares about the success of students. Lots of homework due every MWF. Some homework problems are pretty interesting such as proving Fermat's little theorem, interesting counting, etc. Exams are pretty straightforward. Grading is extremely slow, 2nd midterm and final were graded 1 wk after grades due.
Good professor! Garfield is really nice and kind. Only reason he is at a 4/5 is because the grading. Peter takes FOREVER. There were 2 midterms and a final in Spring and midterm 1 was graded 4 weeks after it was taken, then midterm 2 grades didn't go in until FINALS week. (was taken week 5). Great guy though.
I thought Professor Garfield was an amazing professor. He is very knowledgable at what he does and cracks some jokes here and there which makes the lecture so engaging. What I would do next time if I took this class again was to try and understand the content before the lecture so that when he gives you time to work, it'll be much more efficient.
Very great teacher. I previously had Schley who couldn't teach if his life depended on it, so having Garfield teach was a relief. He explains concepts really well and makes it obvious what he expects out of his students for the exams. Homework grading is tough, and don't expect grades for exams/homework to be released quickly. I recommend taking!!!
Math 8 with Professor Garfield is not easy but he provides as much help as possible. He hosts five office hours a week and you will be able to get help almost everyday of the week. HWs are slightly challenging but tests are fair. He also taught at Harvard for many years and he's just a great Professor.
If you have homework or lecture that you don't understand, he has lots of office hours every week. He has zoom every night before the homework is due. You can ask him all the questions that you don't understand. He is very helpful.
