Would not recommend this professor. Grade is mostly based on papers and a paid project. Unless you have money to spend on a class do not take this class.

Wouldn't recommend this professor; try and take a different SOC class with better professors.

Respectfully, I would not recommend this professor. The professor tell stories but lacks content to back her stories. The professor is not clear in what she is looking for in the assignments! Nice person but makes the class about her not the students!

She simply the best! Her class is a full on experience, prepare to challenge yourself but in a good way. No professor I've ever had cares as much about students. Doable as long as you do readings and pay attention to lecture. Some cool extracredit options. If you have the chance to be in her class, get ready to be disappointed by all other classes!

Professor Martinez was an excellent professor, while her methods are unorthodox, that doesn't change the fact she knows what she is talking about and does a great job of teaching it. Assignments are quite simple and readings are interesting. Easily the best professor I've had at UCSB

Doctor Martinez is an absolutely amazing professor, please don't listen to the negative reviews. The class is incredibly simple and easy, she is an easy grader, and while there is a lot of reading, the readings are actually quite interesting. She is what many would consider unprofessional but that's honestly what keeps a student engaged.
