CollegeLoved Tara so much. Was never much of a history gal, but hearing her lecture about social theorists from the past and connecting their theories to today's society was really cool. Midterm was great, she gave all the questions beforehand to study and left plenty of class time to answer questions. One paper and then a short reflection for the final.
Prof. Tober is super nice and understanding. This class was really easy and had a pretty low workload (one 500-word forum post a week). Tests and papers are graded very generously and lectures are always entertaining. This class was a theory course, which is always kind of tedious, but she made it interesting with personal stories and jokes.
very fun! uses modern references to help clarify some ideas or terms. only one discussion due per week, 500 words and involving assigned readings. she gives partial credit on the midterm and also hands out possible questions before. final is a paper regarding a topic of your choice and analyzing with some theories, with no strict page requirement
I've taken now 4 courses with Professor Tober. Took Soc 1 with her and it was this course that made me switch into the major. She's honestly amazing and is funny during her lectures. If you have the opportunity to take a class with her, DO IT! You won't regret it.
She does not teach. Uses the same recorded lectures as past quarters. Assigns a lot of reading, most of it difficult theory that is hard to understand then expects you to grasp it yourself from there. Mandatory forum post and forum reply every week ends up feeling like you are writing a (short) essay every weekend plus a paper, midterm, and final
Doctor Tober explains difficult sociological concepts well. This is an UD class, so you have to dig into the readings/lectures, but her explainations make theory digestible and interesting. 2 short writings assigments every week, midterm, paper, and an easy final. Late work gets half a letter grade deduction each day it is late. Take this class!
