This professor was not my favorite, her lectures are incredibly disorganized and her weekly quizzes and assignments are unreasonably difficult. That being said her final grades were very fair and her exams did get curved. So if you have to take this class for credit she’s not the worst and she does offer a lot of extra credit.

Extremely disorganized lecture so that nothing really makes sense. The quizzes and homework assignments do not reflect what was taught or she hasn't even got to the material yet but we are being tested on it. Worst class I've taken at UCSB. Extremely confusing because of teaching style. Constantly contradicts herself.

Lecture slides are all over the place and hard to understand. Weekly quizzes and assignments don't align with the current lecture material and some of the questions are extremely difficult! Her teaching is disorganized and makes the material seem so much more confusing.

I had Thomasson for eemb 3 and I will be the first to say I really disliked her teaching style and was not fond of her as a professor. 180 degrees change in my opinion on her after taking this course. Responds to emails right away, is accommodating and wants you to succeed. Its not hard to do well in this course, exam grading was very generous.

Very disorganized lectures, especially the in-person ones. I went to the 8am lecture once, and she kept making mistakes without correcting herself. What she said during lecture was almost opposite to what the textbook said!! None of the quizzes or assignments align with the lectures, and some of the questions are UNREASONABLY hard and confusing!!!

She has yet to release an assignment/quiz that is error free. She promised to have study guide available a certain day and never posted it. I’m worried about the final because her quizzes don’t line up with her lecture material and are way more in depth than any of her lectures have ever been. I am consistently frustrated in this class

I really wanted to like this professor! She made it seem like she was super caring and easily accessible. She ignored my emails about material I was confused by and canceled office hours regularly. Her lectures are EXTREMELY disorganized and make material way more confusing than it should be. Probably my least favorite professor at UCSB so far.

The prof is great, but she is disorganized in lecture and in assignments. Sometimes the things she puts in assignments are not things we have learned yet. When she can't finish the lecture during class time, she goes over time or makes students watch lecture outside of class, which is not fair to student time.

This professor is the most unprofessional teacher I have ever experienced. Her quizzes/test/assignments seem like she has written them (due to the grammatical errors) but fail to align with her lectures. I would recommend avoiding taking her classes unless you can memorize a textbook.

Seems like nice person, but thats about the only positive thing I can say. Her constant contradictions and poor explanations of important topics/processes in lecture make this 3-credit class seem like a 5-credit. Its as if she goes into her lecture completely unprepared and is attempting to explain things off the top of her head. Very frustrating

She's one of the WORST lecturers I've ever had. She doesn't finish her sentences, says the wrong words, and just doesn't seem to know the material very well because of her constant contradictions with incomprehensible explanations. HORRIBLE at explaining concepts, does it in the most confusing way possible. Lectures are long, quizzes are unfair.

This was the worst section of EEMB 3 by far. Lectures were unorganized and full of jargon, quizzes were confusing. No practice test provided for exam worth 50% of grade, and no word on how the exam will be administered, how many questions, with less than 36 hours to go. Not even a list of topics to study. Blamed students for doing well on last exam

more work than in-person 100%. she links videos in lectures that she normally would show in class but expects us to watch them on our own time. kinda annoying that she references pictures on screen but doesn't point them out. she has more detailed ppts than the other eemb 3 profs but i didn't retain a thing from lectures. just read the book

I have her for envs25 and holyyy. She is such a bad teacher. Extremely disorganized lectures, messes up her words literally once every 4 sentences, and doesn't even use her mouse cursor for when talking about the numerous things on each powerpoint. She doesn't at least make multiple powerpoints to lead up to the filled in slides

Kelly has significantly improved as a bio professor. Despite long lectures, the material is easy/fun to learn. Exams are scenario-based, so you won't get far by just memorizing. Labs are simple but tedious. The class fulfills a WRIT requirement so expect a good amount of writing, especially for the research paper. Solid choice for a bio upper div!

Thomasson is awesome! I went to office hours and emailed her and she's very kind and understanding. Lectures were split up into chunks and perfect in teaching course material. Quizzes/hw were indicative of test difficulty. You'll likely do well with some effort. Infinitely better than MCDB6 and evident she has been adjusting the class to improve.

I liked this class way more than mcdb6. Quizzes are mainly to make sure ur watching the lectures and u get 2 attempts to take it. 5 HW assignments that have unlimited attempts. people in the groupme complained about the midterms being hard but since it was open note i got As on both. definitely need to know the material but its manageable.

Thomasson is really accessible over email and is super nice. This class is hard because of the quality of lectures, she kinda just throws disorganized information at you. Plan on taking comprehensive textbook notes to secure the A. Also, she offers extra credit early in the quarter, and I really suggest that you do it (it's pretty generous).

If you learn things quickly or love to read the book/studying on your own time, then you can likely get an A. But, lectures make less sense over time. There will be a random essay that is worth a lot and depending on which TA grades you, thats the most unfair gamble. You can tell who graded you, because some are fair/nice and some aren't. Professor Thomasson explains concepts well and makes them easy to understand (and engaging). She goes go through lectures quickly so it's helpful to listen to the lecture and take detailed notes later. She's really understanding and wants to help students. The exams aren't too difficult but they do make up a huge chunk of your grade so study hard!

1st week and dear god, her recorded lectures are absolutely horrendous. She can't get through a single sentence without stumbling over words and using verbal fillers, to the point where you have to replay the same sentence over and over for it to even be coherent. She could at least include the text in her slides or be more careful in speaking.

Gives no feedback what so ever, turns everything towards the TA and then its your luck with the TAs, we had two good TA and one thats very bad. Grading turns garbage at the end and they start throwing random grades by quickly skimming through the essay which is very heavily weighted into the grade. Dropped my grade hard almost got a B. Just dont

Very good person, probably the worst teacher I have ever had. Had an A+ the whole semester, come to the finals she has an opinion-based essay and another part. The other part is fine, the opinion-based essay is where they grade very fast throwing random grades. My essay grade dropped me from an A+ to a C+. Imagine a TAs opinion has that power on A+
