He suddenly jumped and yelled in class without any reason, and even cursed in the direction of seats that students were sitting in. He didn't manage the order of the class and final exam room at all, students, his TA, and himself all could yell at the air or at others at will in class and in the final exam room at any time.
If you suddenly find the very rare coincidence that he tended to always say 'she ...' in the direction of every seat you sit in at random, it would be a little bit intimidating and irritating.
During the final exam, Dr. Price kept walking back and forth, saying 'she is simple nurse.' After the extreme chaos in the examination room, he remained silent, then shouted 'she is silly,' 'she was very smart,' 'I am upset about the class,' 'she...' He never apologized and offered a compensatory solution for such a rare test room management issue.
Professor won the Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award in 2018 and is the chair for the Committee for the Faculty Distinguished Teaching Award. Don't know why he chose not to manage the order of the classroom and the final exam room of Chem 1C at all in Fall 2019, and even yelled in the final examination room with his TA and students.
In the examination room, professor price dramatically didnt care about his TA and students yelling dramatically loudly together in the classroom for no reason and disrupting the order of the examination room. He even didnt reply to students when they called his name, stared at him, and spoke loudly enough to him that Price is moral!"
Tests were really hard and book problems are a necessity
Price is an AMAZING lecturer. He's been doing this series for 10yrs, so he knows what students typically struggle on, so he is able to give the best explanations on those topics. He's very accessible through email and gives thorough answers to any concerns or questions. Makes the content digestible and easy.
Dr. Price taught knowledge clearly and accurately in class. However, after the appearance of chaos in the classroom and examination hall, effective management and handling were not carried out in time, which further enlarged and exacerbated the problems. Some of his words and deeds in the classroom are difficult to understand and uncivilized.
The grade for this class is based on 3 midterms (the lowest score gets dropped), a final exam, in-lecture questions, and ALEKS. The lectures were pre-recorded and Dr. Price does a good job with organizing and presenting the information. However, the exams are very difficult and watching the lectures alone is not enough to pass.
Prof. Price is pretty good at teaching! His lectures were clear and pretty interesting. However, his tests (3 midterms and a final) were horrible. I did all of the homework, started studying one to two weeks before each test, and took handwritten notes for all of the lectures, and still struggled really hard. I think Chem 1B is hard no matter what.
Price's lectures are clear and the material isn't too hard to grasp. The issue was the final exam, it was pretty difficult in comparison to the recommended book problems and practice exams we were given. He has an issue of making things seem like they'll be easy, then boom, a difficult exam.
I never actually met Price, but his recorded lectures were great. He explains every step and gives you tips on how to approach problems. He also gives you recommended book problems. He is by far the best CHEM 1A-B professor. Responds to emails reasonably well. Exams are 16 questions/1hour, so time isn't bad. Expect at least 2 or 3 curve ball ?s
Wonderful professor. Explains everything clear. Tries to make the class interesting. Final is hard but curved.
Price is probably really good in person as everyone claims, but online school is not for him. He gives good lectures, is really nice, and really cares if you ask him for help; however, his tests do not reflect his lectures nor the book problems. They are insanely hard. Some questions are about things he does not even teach. The curve is laughable.
Prof price is really good and explains concepts really well but his tests are insane. I did all the books problems and practice tests and went to every office hours and still struggled on his tests.
His exams are unrealistically hard. Questions are not really testing your understanding of the concepts but rather designed to trick you. I did all the book problems, practice tests etc. but still struggled. It seems to me Price is trying to prove he can create the most tricky Chem questions at UCSB. Don't agree with any of the positive reviews.
Professor Price is definitely the best Chemistry teacher in the department. His lectures are thorough and he provides detailed explanations. My main issue is that despite doing all textbook questions and practice exams I really struggled on tests, especially the final. It can be frustrating when you feel like its impossible to do well.
Ngl Professor Price is not worth the hype in my opinion. Maybe its because of the pandemic or I just dont do well with his teaching style, but his exams are awfully hard for no reason. As someone who has done a lot of practice on bookwork, attended tutor sessions, and have done practice tests. The exams are not an accurate representation of me.
Professor Price is a great option for Chem 1B. He explains difficult concepts clearly and he's a really nice guy. His midterms are reasonable; as long as you watch the lectures, do ALEKS, and rework the textbook problems, you should be fine.
Dr. Price completed the content of the course and offered relatively good course materials, but he had uncivilized words and deeds in class and brought personal moods into the class, needing to strengthen the management of the class and examination to play a positive role in guiding students. Hope to further improve personal career quality.
Had Price online my first quarter in college. Not a bad professor, nice guy. Midterms are difficult and heavily draw from practice textbook problems. ALEKS helps a bit but not a ton. DO BOOK PROBLEMS and I recommend office hours as well. Final was extremely difficult and brought me down a lot, barely passed.
Great professor. Probably the best gen chem prof at ucsb. His class format (lectures, practice problems, aleks) prepares well for the exams. Exams are kind of hard but that's just how chem is.
Price's lectures are easy to understand. Do the textbook problems + practice exams and go to CLAS!!! His midterms were fairly reasonable and reflected what we learned. However, his final was more challenging so make sure you know the content. Chem is a hard subject but Price made it easier. If you're willing to put in the work, you can pass!
He's a really good prof, but I failed the class cuz I didn't the book problems, and let me tell you, you don't do the book problems, I can guarantee that you'll barely pass the class. The midterms and finals are very hard, but the lectures are easy to understand, do the book problems and the practice tests, or else you will fail the class.
