he explains concepts very clearly, and while the class is hard, it's doable
He really and truly is the goat of the ucsb gen chem series. Notoriously tough course, but Price's lectures are so well constructed for easy comprehension and if you use the study resources he gives, there is really no reason why you shouldn't be able to pass. You don't even need to use them all, he's got something for everyone.
Best instructor at UCSB. Price is understanding, knowledgable, and a great teacher. He goes fast in lecture, so always go over the material outside of class. Three exams and ALEKS chapters due every week. Plenty resources and practice exams on Canvas. Very straightforward in expectations for the course. It was an honor to take Price, he's amazing!
I was able to learn chemistry thoroughly taking Price, hes so smart and nice, daddy of chemistry ❤️
Didn't do well in this class, but I don't blame him at all. I enjoyed how aleks was due at the end of each chapter, instead of every Sunday like other professors. Midterms were fair, but the final was insanely hard. Went to his office hours they were helpful, I wish I took advantage of them more.
Chem 1B is hard in general but Price made it slightly more manageable. I think his explanations of material made a lot more sense to me than previous teachers. ALEKS is optional but can cushion your grade. Practice exams and questions are essential to passing.
Dr. Price is such a goated professor, so clear in his lectures and makes it easy for you to follow along. I would emphasize doing his practice exams and really understanding the book problems. On top of that he's so fine. I would take his last name if he asked me.
Dr. Price is the best professor I have ever had at UCSB, I took the whole GCHEM series with him. This professor actually cares about student success and is always available to help (even if you can't make office hours). I was failing with Abu Omar and excelled with Dr. Price. If all professors were like Dr. Price it would make UCSB a better place.
Price is great at explaining concepts, however he does go pretty fast. I would usually go over notes/rewatch lecture videos to get things I missed in class. If you do all the book problems, practice tests (timed), and ALEKS homework you should be able to succeed. It's important to be able to do the problems fast because midterms are a time crunch.
Price is a great lecturer who made complex concepts in 1B easier to understand. His midterms were very similar to the practice midterms he posted on Canvas. However, I believe his course averages were too high so he made a very difficult final which ended up tanking my grade. Be aware of that final if the averages for the midterms are high!
Great lecturer and provides tons of resources on the canvas page, including recorded lectures. Midterms were reasonable and were a lot like the posted practice tests. My advice would be to take ALL of the practice tests. I only really struggled on the final, as it was not as much like the practice problems.
Great professor! Only good things to say, and I wish I could take him for the entire gen chem series! Very clear and organized, and has many tools and tips on how to succeed in his class. Great lecturer but also very accessible outside of class. Do the practice problems and practice exams because they are exactly like the midterms and final.
One of the best professors I've had at UCSB. Broke down difficult concepts well so definitely go to lectures. Make sure to do all the ALEKS or else your grade is entirely your test scores. I only ever studied practice exams (didn't do book problems) and still did well on the midterms/final. Warning: final was much harder than midterms.
Price is an amazing lecturer and overall funny guy! He grades the course using two different methods and uses whichever gives you the higher score. For all you ALEKS haters, this means that it is optional, but it does boost your grade if you bomb the exams. My advice for passing this class is to do ALL the book problems & practice exams (NO JOKE)
Great guy, posted lectures online, grading was tough but fair for a weeder class and curve seemed to help people. Posted plenty of practice problems and exams with the same question formats on the midterm. Seems like the best chem 1b teacher.
He is everything he is perfect I would do anything for this man. The most organized professor ever. Do not take any other professor. He makes a really really challenging class doable. You will regret not taking price. Final was lowkey insane tho
I LOVE THIS MAN. The best professor I've ever had. He made me ENJOY chemistry! I looked forward to class because his lectures are so helpful and he makes it so easy to understand. He provides so many practice tests for each exam and has videos on canvas of old lectures. He's the best ever and I'm going to miss him. DON'T TAKE CHEM W ANYONE ELSE!!!
Best chem prof. I like him as a person and he was accessible during office hours and helpful. The class was insanely hard but all of chem is. He dives into more difficult problems during lecture rather than the simplest version so you know what to do. The final was really hard though and not relevant to the midterms. I'm going to miss my man ;(
Great professor with clear lectures. Chemistry has never made so much sense until now. It's still a lot of hard work, go to lectures (even though attendance isn't graded) and do the book problems and ALEKS (which is also optional) in order to do well in the class. Price is definitely one of the best in the chemistry department.
BEST PROF AT UCSB. Delay taking your first qtr. of gen chem until the winter of your first year because he teaches one quarter behind the regular pathway. I got an A in 1A, B in 1B, and B in 1C, and am convinced I would have failed Gen Chem and dropped this major if not for Price. He is extremely knowledgeable and lectures amazingly. GET DR. PRICE!
BEST GEN CHEM PROFESSOR!! On the days he would wear a suit to lecture my friend and I would call him "Mr. President" lol. I had Price for Chem 1B and C and he's a get professor. He posts a lot of practice tests and you can watch his online lectures from covid which are both so helpful for the tests. Practice problems are key!!!
I LOVE THIS MAN HE IS MY ICON. He made learning chem easy, his lectures are great he literally writes out the problem with you and writes out his reasoning/steps. He also posts 5 different versions of past exams with solutions. Only annoying thing is he does not copy and paste a problem from a practice exam and put it on the real exam (iykyk)
Very clearly cares about students. Amazing at simplifying difficult material and breaking down concepts. Probably one of the best professors I've ever had. I owe him for my success in chemistry.
He genuinely wants students to succeed- and he understands that general chemistry is incredibly challenging. He does not make you memorize unnecessary complex ions and is very modern in his approach to teaching. This is class is inevitably very difficult, so to pull it off its important you understand what's happening and not just memorize.
