This class was easy! all you had to do was truly listen to the guy and take notes which he tells you the first day to do! No reason not to do good. A lot of people didnt like this class because you actually had to go to class to do well and pay attention. Reading is not really required and the movies he shows he doesnt test you on.
I TA'd for this guy a while back and it was a horrible experience. Whatever course he's teaching, try and take it from someone else. His grading rubric is unfair, his tests require word-for-word memorization. Honestly, I think his set-up hurts good students. Worse, he has a volatile temper and he is very rude to students. Try to avoid Hines.
Hate this man. Uses words out of context and incorrectly. Terrible speaker. Class isn't hard, just know his exact word for things even if he's wrong.
at first i was very interested in this class. He does specifically explain certain terms. Does not make it exciting for the student, very boring and dull
This class is a complete waste of time. I dont think he ever proof read any of his power points, he uses his "extensive" vocabulary improperly, and he tests how well you can memorize his lectures WORD FOR WORD. There is no learning in this class, only memorization (and you don't need to do any of the readings). Avoid this class at all costs.
uses too many big words just to make him seem so much smarter than everyone. uses anthropology words like you are supposed to know them from the first day. really easy class though. read teh books. take notes on key points in power points and listen to what he has to say and you should pass easily.
Dr. Hines is pretty ridiculous. He doesn't talk in coherent understanding sentences. He uses big words to show that he is smarter than you and expects you to write those sentences down word for word and remember them exactly for his tests. Taking notes and studying for this class was ridiculous because there were no concrete definitions for terms.
Yes, he has demanding standards and yes, he does rely heavily on the terms he uses in class, but he is 100% clear about exactly what is expected from you and exactly how to do well. If you paid attention to what he was said in lecture and not just where the party was going to be next weekend, then there were no surprises. Never read and easy A.
How could you not love this guy!!!!!
Ridiculous standards.
Completely unhelpful, arrogent and mean to students.
His use of words like culteralness is absolutely frustrating. You feel like you are in an english class not in Anthropology.
Okay. So he seems like a really legit guy and the stuff he talks about and the class is fairly interesting. I actually really liked the class part. But the tests are so specific. Meaning specific wording from a specific lecture, book, etc. So it was it was tough for it to be an enjoyable class when I was constantly frusterated with the grading.
hard class. goes quickly, most of the test is based on what he talks about in class, not the notes or readings. go in with an open mind and pay attention in class. write out the notes again before midterms, helped so much
This teacher is exteremly pompus. He uses ridiculous vocabulary that nobody understands to try to teach new topics. His tests are silly because rather than the exams testing you on knowledge of cultural anthropology, they test you on memorizing the exact statements he said. Bad class. Don't take it.
he is a very good lecturer just at times he goes way too fast& tells everyone to write faster instead of slowing down his pace. The lectures are very helpful at the same time hard to keep up
Very interesting course and professor, but most of the time he seemed pretty unorganized and rushed to finish lecture. I didn't know whether to pay attention to the slide show or what he was saying, cause half of the time what was said in lecture did not correlate to the slides he showed. All in all, it was an ok class and pretty easy to get a dece
Interesting class, great movies, ok teacher. But I think he makes up half of the words he uses in lectures.
Easiest class ever. Just go to lecture and take notes. Midterms and final easy. Interesting if you actually understand it but as long as you pay attention and do some of the reading it's an easy A.
sucked. it was really hard to understand because it's like he needed to impress people. i don't understand...but it just suckes. run. away.
final was so easy! but i still think that modernity=westernization is an ethnocentric definition. why cant cultures be modern in their own way
the tests in this class havent been bad so far. i havent taken the final yet but i have a solid B. Lecture is pretty boring and the reading sucks. Not the professor's fault that anthropology is a bore. what do people expect we talk about in an intro anthro class? In Conclusion, anthro 2 is for those who need a class to fill in and isn't that hard
it's kinda interesting but he just talks in circles and sometimes his questions on the test are vague and unfair
Horrible prof. I'm convinced he picks out 3-4 buzzwords before lecture and tries to use them as many times as possible. He is soooo full of****. I can't believe he made a career for himself out of pure ****.
