Super sweet person. You dont have to go much to class or study much, as long as you know the topics that will be covered in each bi-weekly test. But, still recommend to write notes about everything and skim the book a bit for the online tests. Final was not cumulative, just covered the last two weeks worth of notes (as do all of them).
Quiz-based class with mandatory sections and a lotttt of reading and long lectures. She likes to talk about her own research. No extra credit opportunities, just study the chapters for the quizzes and hope for the best.
kind, fun, engaging, cool - I love Shelly Gable and her close relationship classes are super interesting! would def. take it again!
Psych 1 with Professor Gable was an easy A if you watch all of the lectures & do the textbook reading. The reading amount is pretty reasonable & doesn't take up too much time.
I LOVED Prof Gable. Her lectures were very clear cut and her gauchospace was well organized. The quizzes were pretty easy imo, I didn't do any of the readings and got A's on all the quizzes (there are 6 quizzes and your lowest one is dropped). However, studying time may vary, I had a friend that had to do all of the readings to get the same grades.
Lectures were very formative. Feedback not given on quizzes.
Very clear cut class. Straight forward tests and assignments and if you put in minimal effort you will get an A!
The class material was so good that Gable had a pretty easy job making it a fun class, but she was still somehow able to elevate it. This is one of those classes I would recommend every single person regardless of major takes (not just for a GE).
Very easy A. Show up to the lectures and read the OSRs and you will be more than fine! The is extra credit for showing up to lectures which is great. Lectures are however quite basic, study the slides and abstracts of the OSRs and you'll do great. Gable was a bit rude to students asking questions which is a shame, however did not impact learning.
Interesting materials and thorough explanations in lecture(you get EC for going). Only had one exam due to coronavirus but it wasn't too hard, just be careful.
Though this person's lectures are very thorough and interesting, she doesn't listen to her students. Every class she asks if people have questions, but nearly every time she cuts people off mid-sentence. In trying to anticipate people's questions, she fails to actually hear what's confusing students.
Everything from the exams is straight from the slides but you get extra credit for showing up. The weekly quizzes are sometimes badly worded but they're easy As overall. Midterms cover a lot of material but the exams are very clear if you've studied. Overall a great choice and definitely doable.
I took Dr. Gable for my last quarter at UCSB and I honestly wish I had taken her earlier because I want to take more classes with her! An equally, sweet, funny, and intelligent professor, Gable made lectures interesting and exciting! Her exams are extremely straightforward if you just read and come to lectures. Take a class with her!!!
Shelly is an amazing lecturer and she explains things very thoroughly. You basically just read a couple of original source readings a week (pretty short, & interesting!) and take a short quiz (5-10 questions) on Gauchospace every week. The two midterms are very easy, and this class is really enjoyable! Definitely recommend.
Gable is straightforward and clear in her lectures and exam. Easier course compared to other professors. Reading is straightforward but definitely read the book for the exam.
Dr. Gable reads from the slides in lecture, so you don't really have to go. There were 4 short homework assignments, a midterm, and a final. The class is really straightforward. There is a book that is expensive and you need to read because test questions come from it. The material is interesting and she isn't boring. She answers questions well.
Super easy class, just make sure to read the book carefully and you will get an A. All test questions are straight from the lecture slides and book, so you don't really have to go to lecture. Lecture is exactly what is on the slides so it is hard to get the motivation to actually show up for class.
Only gives a midterm and final but the questions are pretty straightforward. Easy A. Would definitely take her again.
She posts her lecture slides after class and during class she reads from them so going to class is optional. Read the book to understand concepts because on tests you have to be able to apply them in the example situations she gives. Really awesome professor getting an A is possible if you just put in some work to do well on the tests
If you put in a decent amount of time into this class you will likely be fine. The tests are straightforward and she doesnt try to trick you on the questions! Reading and attending class would be recommended to achieve an A, but she does post lecture slides.
She gives a 4 online quizzes (lots of time & open book), a midterm, & a final. Memorize the Concepts to Remember from the textbook modules, memorize all the studies mentioned, and lectures are available online for review. You'll do well if you know key terms, studies, and the OSRs!
Lectures aren't the most interesting but not boring. She is straightforward and so are her tests. She goes into more detail in the lecture than her slides which she posts. Reading was also really straightforward. If you come to class and skim the readings you should do well.
Prof Gable was very clear and straightforward when she lectured. Slides were well-organized, voice was audible. Expectations for the class were very explicitly outlined. All you have to do to get an A is read the modules and show up. Can answer student questions very well, and is knowledgeable and passionate about the field.
Prof Gable was so understanding and made it very clear and easy to get an A. Her test questions are very straightforward; if you know the topic you will get the question right. Her lectures aren't the most exciting thing in the world but I loved them because the material was interesting. The book is great. Study the key terms and you'll get an A.
