Very good professor. The lecture is little bit boring but he posted very informative notes on his website. The practice exam was similar to the real exams. Even though you get the wrong answer on the exam , he gave 90% credits for the steps.
Horrible class and big lack of support in all aspects.
Professor Atzberger is really good! He is super understanding and kind. If the class was confused on assignments, he would provide an extension for everyone! The final was a project which was really interesting to do and a good resume booster! He cares about teaching students skills to use in the industry, he's not just giving busy work. 10/10
His slides are entirely words or visuals. No math examples, which is odd for a math class. I got an A because the practice final was exactly the same as final, so memorization solely. He spends most of lecture talking about how useful something is or how powerful something is. He did not spend time to build understanding.
Ok, he is kind, he is nice, he respects his students. However, this man has absolutely no idea how to explain things to his students. The lecture is borderline useless. You might as well learn everything on your own. If you ask him a question, he just rambles on and on and pretty much no one would understand what hes saying. Real Sad!
He may not be suitable for everyone but he is a very traditional person and respects all his students.
Atzberger was absolutely horrible for Math 4A. He relied heavily on the textbook publisher's lecture slides, and does not know most of the material himself. He simply reads the slides, with no explanation. Lectures are very hard to comprehend. Homework was 30% of the grade, which made it possible to do decently, as exams are the other 70%.
Paul is honestly the worst professor I've ever had. If you want to actually learn anything in this course you better hope you have a good TA. That being said, his class is really easy. He provides practice finals and midterms that are pretty much identical to the actual exams and is perpetually extending hw due dates. Bad lecturer and hard to reach
You can get pretty good grade if you do the practice exam carefully because they were almost the same but only small difference between numbers. Not good at teaching and just reading his ppt which almost the same as textbook.
Nice guy, mediocre professor. Hw can be difficult but he extends it. Would recommend buying a chegg subscription for it. I stopped going to lecture after the midterm, you honestly dont need to go. He makes things too hard to understand, esp at 8am. Posts study guides which mimic the tests exactly. Easy tests, easy A. You just might not learn a lot
Everyone here giving Atzberger a hard time are terrible people. Be honest, this class was an easy A and one could learn all the materials just by doing the homework and doing simple google searches. However, he was not the best lecturer to be honest. He kind of made every concept a lot more difficult than it was. Easy A if you take time to learn.
Haven't gone to class since Week 3 -- his lectures are more confusing than helpful, discussing more theory than practical usage. He's a researcher told to teach, so he's not exactly good at teaching people. Homework due once a week (again, he's not used to teaching, so they all got pushed back)... you have to learn the material yourself though.
I really discourage everyone from taking him at a undergrad level. He constantly discusses abstract concepts without even covering the basis to understand those concepts. Also he really likes to mention to the class that this material is important outside of class, but doesn't bother to explain why or how.
Stopped going to lecture after the first week. Doesn't care about his teaching, extended every single homework at the last minute so you never knew when anything was due. There were always concepts on the homework that he hadn't covered yet so you have to go to CLAS drop-in or something to figure it out. Nonetheless, his exams are easy.
Probabaly the worst math professor ive ever had and didnt go to lecture after the first week but his tests are so easy as long as youre able to do the homeworks youre fine
Assigned way tooo much homework, and never post slides online.
I actually really enjoyed taking Math104A with Atzberger. He responds to emails quickly, and he's actually a funny/nice professor. The homework always takes a long time to do as he assigns a lot, its usually tedious computations, and some coding, which is not too bad as the textbook provides the basic algorithm for you already.
This is seriously the worst professor I have ever had. He is unclear, unhelpful, unpleasant, and snooty. Go to great lengths to avoid his classes.
Very smart man. Abhorrent professor. Makes things needlessly complicated and shows very little willingness to help outside of class. Avoid if you can
He has a tough vocabulary in his lectures that makes you not be able to understand what's happening (he says "intuitively" 2932741 times), especially when class is early in the morning its hard to want to go to class. Only reason I have an A is because I crammed for the midterm and learned everything reading the textbook chapters.
Such a genuine human and a great lecturer was very easy too
In my opinion, professor Atzberger is not a bad lecturer. He is definitely passionate and knowledgeable about what he is teaching, but he forgot that we are all just undergraduate students trying to pass, not PhD students doing research with him. The exams are super easy though, the first time I got 100/100 in a college math course.
Godly Professor, cares about students wellbeing and adjusts his class based on students needs.
His lectures are extremely hard to follow up and they make you feel like an idiot most of the time... though his exams are extremely easy. btw, having a good TA to help catch up with the unclear stuff in class is really necessary!
