Prof. DasGupta is wonderful. She has a lot of experience with hands-on activism. All assignments were writing projects and he is very accessible outside of class. You can email her drafts and she will give you feedback. Most lectures are based on his experiences and class discussion. Lectures get more fun as more people engage in discussion.
Good professor who really makes you think. The course is very reading heavy but you can get by from just skimming (I don't recommend it but I did it so lol)
Easiest class I have ever taken and will ever take. Every assignment was some kind of writing, 4 1-page reflections, 1 2-page book review, and a 4-page final. I am a horrible writer but got a 100% on everything and in the class. Section is "mandatory" for a grade but it really just depends on your TA for grading.
Professor DasGupta is super nice however at times the class became a little unorganized which can be stressful. Overall he made good points in lecture but not a great job of clearly connecting back to the readings so a lot of the denser readings were a little confusing. Still an easy class as long as you meet with your TA to go over the assignments
The professor's cool. Lectures don't pertain to the coursework but they still are very interesting. Enjoyable readings and coursework.
I wouldn't take a class again under this professor again because she was very disorganized, particularly towards the second half of the quarter where she'd show up late more often and didn't even let us know when he decided not to show up to lecture one day. Overall, her disorganization really affected the quality of this class.
She is a trans studies scholar in South Asia. There is a lot of global transgender identity readings for the class. Reflection writing, book reviews and a final project. I loved that he used Zines & creative materials. Professor is very supportive of students and funny too
We had to make stop motion films!! the group dynamics at times can be weird. Prof.DasGupta managed us all and we completed the projects. Loved reading Amber Hollibaugh on LGBTQ history.
Prof D is very friendly. His lectures at times can be difficult, but there are videos, films, visiting speakers that helps. Loved making the Zines that helps connecting your experiences with the content
Bad irresponsible instructor. Barely give responses. Gives random bad grades
Prof has a fun personality and knows how to connect with his students, but I wish the class was better organized. I never knew what was going on or what we were covering. Lectures never helped so I stopped attending. I basically was guiding myself and with the help of my TA. Readings were very interesting though!! Easy writing course tbh
The professor means well and is knowledgeable but lectures were usually not that important nor clear. If you read the 'mandatory' readings and have a good TA you'll do good in the class without having to go to lecture. I relied heavily on my TA to understand what the professor wants from us but it is a good class.
Professor Dasgupta really cares about his students and is very passionate about the material. The class has an essay for the midterm and a zine for the final project. Neither is hard and the zine is cool to make. TAs are also super knowledgeable and are very willing to help clarify any concepts.
Dr. Dasgupta was a good lecturer but certain criteria were not always clear for assignments and I relied a lot on my TA to clarify a lot of things. Other than that I really enjoyed the course.
This class was relatively easy. The TAs really make this class as the professor was a little unorganized. Learned a lot, definitely sparked an interest in feminist studies. Short weekly reflections, a book report, 3 longer essays, and 1 four-page final research paper. Not difficult at all, but also could've just been because of my awesome TA.
I will miss taking her classes. I graduated and his class was a wonderful note to end my time at UCSB. He made online learning truly fun
Professor Dasgupta is a really caring and passionate professor. The course consisted of a book review, a final project, and weekly reflections, all of which were graded very easily. He even created an alternative final project for students that was more doable than the previous one. No lectures but reading is interesting and overall a great course.
