Harsh man who cared little about fairness and his students. The course was even worse than before: raise curve for A from 87% (before pandemic) to 93%; set sequential navigation in tests (must finish one question before proceeding to next one); increased toughness of tests, making doing past papers futile. BTW he's not even a professor yet.

Not great at explaining and just breezes through so the class is a self study course basically

I took her Econ 1 online and got 96%. Course contents are not hard, projects are a little bit tricky but I was able to learn a lot of useful excel skills.

You're going to have to teach yourself all the material, however they did change the class set up for COVID and it was a bit easier to obtain a B however the test's are very hard. They do give you old midterms to use to study, but do not rely on the teachers to actually teach you the material. Good luck.

One of the worst professors Ive ever had this past semester. The way he has gone about Corona has been to pre-record everything, hold only ONE 30 minute lecture per week to ask questions. Only about 50% of his teaching is on the tests so try to ace everything else and be prepared to fail those. Class averages for the last 3 tests were Fs.

I had Professor Bedard for Econ1 online and I thought this class would be one of my easier classes since I took AP Economics. However, you do need to take the time to study the material in order to pass. We had projects and your project grades really depend on your TA. All in all, you definitely need to put in the work to get a good grade.

COVID, online. What are you expecting? This is your first major class for Econ/E&A. Actually watch the lectures, do the practice tests, and review, you are gonna be fine. 4 tests and 4 projects, both drop the lowest. A is not too easy but completely doable. Professor Bedards lecture and slides are super easy to understand and not too boring.

The exams and homework were relatively simple, but the real headache were the group projects. The instructions for the group projects were not specific, and the professor and TAs didn't do a good job answering questions students had. I would definitely not take this class again.

Gave boring lectures that provided surface level knowledge of concepts. Did not teach much beyond that. Best way to pass this class is do all the practice exams and problem sets. Maybe he would have been better in person, but he was a dull professor online.

Bedard is the head of the econ department so she likes to play everything by the book. Very clear from day 1 what it takes to get an A. Tests are pretty easy if you watch the lectures. Projects are the worst thing I have ever done. The TAs grade the projects so harshly. MAKE SURE TO CONNECT YOUR PROJECTS TO CLASS MATERIAL. TAs are horrible!!

She is not accessible at all for office hours. I emailed her for an appointment, but she said just to come to online office hours, but she never showed up. The tests were open notes, so the wording was made confusing and misleading. I wish the test would have been fill in the blank. The material was easy but the questions were phrased to confuse.

She gives pretty good lectures and is an organized professor and the work for the most part is pretty moderate. Exams are pretty okay though the projects can be a really challenge not because they're complex but merely because the directions can be vague. Overall a decent class and the grading is pretty fair.

HW is twice a week and tests are not so bad if you watch lectures and do the work! Definitely doable, tho there are 4 projects to do and these can be time consuming and annoying too but for the most part it's expected. all lectures were pre-recorded so that was very convenient! Recommend if you want to get this class over with for your major fast.

Terrible. Definitely worst lecturer I met in UCSB. And he's not willing to help cause he don't care about the students.

I have never taken an econ class before and I did great in Bedard's class. Her lectures were amazing, the homework was easy and quick, the tests were very similar to her practice tests/lectures, and the projects were really interesting (but difficult). Go to every section, take extensive notes on everything in the videos/lectures, and you'll be ok

As long as you watch the lectures and do the work, you will be fine, not heavy reading though. She is a very nice professor. She is always happy to answer you questions during her office hour.

WIth an online class, the grading policy was reasonable since they had a drop for every category. I didn't read any of the textbook and only watched the lectures from which you could get As. The material is tough but there is enough practice to score well. Hartman could answer questions better and he is quite annoying but it is a doable class.

He gives terrible lectures. He just read the PPT quickly and lack of clear explanations. He just assume students know everything and he does not answer academic question through email outside the class. The course content is relative easy but how can we pay for a professor who offers such limited help.

His lectures just go over the slides and talks about the general theories of micro-economics. However, every question on the tests require you to apply those concepts to solve problems with numbers. The math isn't hard at all but its knowing what to do for each problem which he doesn't cover. MT1: 100% MT2: 100% Final: 96%

The class is hard, there is a lot of material but the underlying concepts are really the same. A 72% in the class is a B which is what transfers need to pass. Even then you can take the final twice in order to get in. Frankly, most people don't get in because they aren't studying enough or weak math skill. Practice exams are the name of the game.

Great woman but her lectures are far too hard to understand. AP Econ in high school will not prepare you for her course. She moves way too fast and is too vague. She is the type of professor that assumes you know everything so she glosses over everything. Get ready to go to tutoring big time if you want to pass. Participation heavy!

This class was super hard because the class is just all tests. If you miss one multiple choice question, you lose 3% of your total grade!! Hartman is a super boring lecturer and hes just a robot that reads off slides. Also you do not need to go to the 5th hour lectures. Just read the slides and you'll be good.
