I did not find this class easy like other people. I understood all the material and learned a lot but couldn't do well on his tests. His tests and class can be very frustrating, and he is not a great lecturer. But the material is very interesting and practical. So even though my grade didn't turn out great I'd still recommend this class
Clear on what she expects and posts extra problems online. DO ALL THE PROBLEMS SHE POSTS. They're a pretty good representative of the tests. And enroll in CLAS! Super helpful
Bedard truly has no idea how to teach a class. Get enrolled in CLAS ASAP. Her tests are unfair and the material useless. She at least tries to help students but in the end, she doesn't understand that she needs to teach what's actually gonna be on the test. Speak up about it!
I got an A+ and A on Econ 1 and 2 and I have a C- currently in this class. Her slides are usually the most basic concepts and leaves the students to figure out the harder concepts. Every single tests there are 2-4 questions I have never seen before.
Her class average score on her first midterm was 61.5%. Maybe someone here can explain how or why any professor would possibly think they are any good at teaching if a class of students, all of whom are very bright, are performing so poorly on her exam. Thank goodness for the curve. Most students will end up with Cs and not learn a thing. Sad
10A isnt incredibly difficult, but the pressure that transfers are under while taking this class (get a B or get kicked out of econ) absolutely sucks. My first quarter was absolutely miserable because of this. Professor Bedard does everything in her power to help students succeed. Would highly recommend for 10A, best of luck getting into the major.
She's a nice lady and explains things well! If you pay enough attention on the lecture and attempt to do every iclicker question, you will get at least a A-. I didn't go to a single office hour or CLAS but i still manage to get a good grade because her slides and practice tests are really helpful.
Not too hard but a real incompetent unerroringly boring professor. He also never gives a straight foward answer to a simple yes or no question.
Very hard class. There should be a textbook to consult rather than having to go to office hours every time something is confusing, lectures move VERY fast, tons of material covered over the quarter. Professor is helpful and friendly, but if you aren't the kind of person that likes to go to office hours regularly, avoid this class.
Very hard class. She is approachable and friendly. Sometimes she explains things well and other times leaves everyone more confused than before. I used the slides and didn't use the book much. Sign up for CLAS and go to section if you want to do well
Literally the worst professor I have ever had. His tests are a review of micro and macro econ, but you won't know what to study as he wastes your time giving an overview of things like healthcare and social security that anyone with half a brain already knows. If you are suckered into taking this class stay at home and do practice tests. Horrible
shes a nice lady but she tends to make assumptions e.g. she'll skip steps on some of her slides and then explain a slide too fast. i suggest clas (ed is a beast) and ta office hours (i had a pretty good ta). do problem sets ahead of time and understand how to do a problem in multiple ways. also lecture slides>book
Terrible class. His lectures are extremely boring and useless- he talks about anything except what will actually be on the test. I learned most of the material from the TA's rather than the professor, which shows his inability to teach. His tests were nothing like the practice exams he posted online, and he definitely is not flexible when grading.
I thought she explained the material very well for not having taught it in a while. The book is not necessary at all, but CLAS is a must for this class. Make sure you freshen up on calculus because I think the math throws off a lot of people even though it is very basic.
have to go to class because of clicker, slides very confusing and she makes lots of mistakes. read the book and do all the practice problems she gives. you have to actually understand how to do the math, cant just memorize formulas. office hours help alot, shes nice and trying to help just not very effective lecturer.
Really annoying because always makes mistakes on slides and on exams.. had about 10 errors on the Final and it was really hard for me to read what the errors were because I had forgotten my glasses..and this became distracting while taking the tests
Bedard is a great teacher. She recommends the book but it is unnecessary. Her lectures are very clear and she is VERY helpful outside of class. Just go to her office hours and she will answer all of your questions. I definitely recommend her for Econ 10a.
Hartman's way of gauging participation is a little unorthodox, but otherwise he's a very straightforward professor. Highly recommended.
This class was ridiculously easy. The textbook problems he assigns are super easy, and the test is even easier than the practice problem. He drops your lowest score, so I dont even need to take the final and already know I have an A. Take him. Easiest A I've ever had a UCSB.
This guy is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He gives you a ton of practice problems to study and then the test is nothing like the practice questions. His tests are cumulative and our 2nd midterm had about 4 questions on the new material and all the rest was the previous unit, so ignore anything he tells you to study...
A class to take if you want an easy A but you won't learn anything useful. A big part of the grade is how well you play games, no kidding.
a really great person. class was interesting. prof really helpful. dont just study the practice finals, actually do many prblems in the textbook. he tests concepts not memorization. learned alot from this class. can be difficult but if you apply yourself and want to learn, this is a really good class.
same thing as said bellow me... the final is hard but the midterms are easy. you get a lot of extra credit for participation in lecture. he seems dumb at first but as quarter goes on hes actually pretty smart guy
He tried to make class involving and interactive. Midterms are easy, but final was difficult. Not bad, but not great either.
