ECON101 . Bedard K L 7 Years Ago

She literally reads off the power points in lecture. There were no previous practice tests for the class. Midterms 20% , 20% and final 60%. She said tests were like problems at the end of chapter, but the final was WAY more difficult. The solutions also had so many mistakes, which makes studying difficult and confusing.

TERRIBLE AND USELESS. Legit reads off her slides that she copy pastes from the textbook. Class is cumulative and based on WAY too much information. Final worth 60% . She tests on irrelevant and tiny details that you would not expect. Midterms were not bad but her final was designed for people to fail. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. IT WAS WORSE THAN 10a

Her test is more related to what she's talking in class, even though it's super boring. prepare to study by yourself, and her regrade process is just like even though you want to ask question from test, she will interrupt you says "write a explanation to me". OB.

An embaressment to UCSBs' econ program. His lectures in the class are pointless as I could read the slides and interpret it better by myself. Section attendance helps alot and will save your grade. His goal is to weed out people of Econ and does so by acting like the tyrant of Econ and making MC questions where TAs would guess incorrect.

Kelly Bedard is the worst professor I ever take at UCSB. The lecture is pretty much reading slides. textbook is ok, but really long. no past exam, and only practices are questions on book. I would said those question are useless. the answer sheet she gave contain tons of mistakes. if u do end up taking her, study by yourself and good luck....

She just reads off the slides that she has posted on Gauchospace so you do not need to go to lecture at all. Read the book and the articles she posts on Gauchospace. Really nice if you go in to her office hours. Tests are pretty fair but can be a little tricky.

Literally reads off the slides, you could have your friend read the slides off to you and you would get the same out of going to class. No practice problems, which make preparing for the exams nearly impossible.

Reads Directly off power point so no point of going to class. Horrible teaching method, learned way more in my section than in lecture. Gauchospace barely helps any because she doesn't even post old midterms or practice questions, not sure how you're supposed to learn without any material

honestly wasnt that hard. he's an ok teacher i definitely did not pay attention in class but I did do a bunch of the problem sets and CLAS work problems and that helped me out the most. his lecture slides are online so they're good for review.

Given the time constraints of the lectures I think he does a decent job. The reality is you have to spend a lot of time working on your own or seeking outside assistance through CLAS or other means. It's just not easy material, so I don't think ripping on the guy is quite fair. You definitely want to peruse the CLAS 10A website materials .

10A is set up to fail you. The department designed it this way. Hartman runs 10A, writes the tests, and is a terrible teacher. Ditto about his lectures, they aren't helpful at all. The tests are made up of trick questions and are really difficult. Go to CLAS! Transfers beware! You need a solid B in order to get into the major. It's not easy.

Hartman is dry when he teaches as he just reiterates what's already on the slides. There are two things that'll help you pass this class: Do all of the practice problems all of the time, and go to CLAS. The rest is useless. Also get ready for some tricky exams. Midterms are 6-7 questions and the final is 10. Put in the work and you'll survive.

Just avoid him he is all about slides and won't bother to answer your questions in class since he has only 50 minutes to go through over 30 slides. Go to CLAS instead and your sections. Stick real close to your TAs and CLAS mentors they will help you pass not this slide show fanatic, and if you really want to attend class go to Slaters classes.

I recently graduated with an Economics/Accounting degree. I saved Hartman's class for my last quarter. I had never had him for a class before this. He is my least favorite econ professor at that school. His lectures do not help at all. You need to study the practice tests. Hartman is not friendly and a difficult person to get along with.

For his 10A class and it was mediocre imo. He reads off the slides so that's pretty useless. It's like a robot repeating what is already on there. Doesn't really go much in-depth about the materials either but then again all lower div econ classes sucks. Office hours are a joke. I went to clarify a concept and he tried to get rid of me ASAP!

This class alone is tough due to the curve- Bedard is a good lecturer, has solid lectures that throughly explain concepts, and her office hours are very helpful. Read, go to section, study each day, go to lecture, and do ALL of the practice tests- they are the best way to prepare you for the quizzes and the final. Got an A just by studying hard.

Reading and attending lecture is a must in order to pass with hopes of starting off strong in the Econ department. I love how she put everything in a simple reader and constantly explained everything clearly when it came to tests.

Microeconomics is really interesting, but this class was difficult because of the tough curve. If you put in a lot of time and effort, you'll be fine. Go to lectures and study hard for each quiz. She's a pretty good lecturer!

Hartman is a pretty good teacher. He is very clear in lectures and makes sure to reinforce old ideas that show up later in the course. The exams are designed to be tricky and you will need to understand the ideas well to succeed in the course. There are not that many topics and they are all related and can be solved with similar methods.

She's a pretty good teacher and is clear in her explanations. Tests aren't too hard, but they are only 10 questions each, so if you miss a few it drops your grade quite a bit. Also, there is a "mandatory" reading after each class, but the only ones you have to read are the ones she says are on the tests.

This class was not the easiest. Prof. Bedard is a great lecturer but the material on the tests always seem to be so much harder than the examples she gives in class. This class has a major curve (only top 6% will get an A). This class is made to weed people out of the class and the major. iClickers matter, GO TO CLASS!

She is flat out terrible. Would avoid at all costs. She is super new to teaching this class, and does not do a good job at communicating complex material.
