She is such a fun person, you can't not be interested in her classes. I took Persuasion with her over the summer and found her to be very helpful and enthusiastic about the subject matter. Lots of Reading, but she's fair in that she prepares study guides for the exams well ahead of the test date.
Nabi is a kind person and a hard core professor. She knows the subject well & is involved in tons of research. The main paper (critique of an ad) isn't graded as hard as her exams. There's a lot of reading! She expects a lot out of you and you really have to work hard for a decent grade.
It was my first time having Nabi, and it was great! The material is so fascinating and applicable to your own life; she uses tons of examples in lecture that I would write down. Grade is based on midterm, paper, and final. Exams are online and open note; paper is easy and broad(I did it in a day). Class is great bc Nabi is so personable and lively!
Professor Nabi is a good professor and her lectures are interesting to an extent. Your grade in this class is based off of a midterm, a paper, the final and your participation. This class was not very enjoyable, I don't recommend. Nothing personal to the professor but not a lit class.
Professor Nabi is an extremely engaging professor and wants to support each student equally. She recommends office hours and is helpful if you are confused/ need clarification. She uses a lot of examples in her lectures that apply to the concepts we are learning. Lots of reading and only graded on a midterm, final, and essay.
Tests are hard (online/open book/provides study guide) Does not post lecture slides
Prof. Nabi gives good lectures and her slides are easy to follow along. Her exams are online and open note which is great, but the tests are very hard. Some of the questions are subjective and they are mostly short answer. She also tends to ramble a lot during lecture and talk about herself but connects it to class content which is good.
Dr. Nabi is a pretty run-of-the-mill professor. Not too bad, but not amazing. She can be funny at times, which breaks apart the monotony of lecture. However, she doesn't post any of her slides and some questions on the exams (1 midterm and 1 final) can be kind of subjective.
Professor Nabi is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about comm and emotion. She is approachable, caring, and very understanding. her exams are on the more difficult side but shes very generous with grading and you will come out of the class more knowledgeable in comm and emotion. I highly recommend this class and professor nabi.
Toughest grader in my academic career, really impacts my decision with taking any of her other courses in the future.
Took in Spring, coming back to say she was really straightforward in regards to grading criteria. We had 5 timed quizzes every two weeks. I did not read, just used my lecture notes and tried to skim the book. In the end, she made your lowest scoring quiz weigh less and your highest scoring weigh more, so that helped boost my grade. Pretty fair
Lowest grade I received at UCSB. I never missed a day of class, studied so hard on the exams, went to office hours and still ended up with a B. Great lecturer but EXTREMELY tough grader. Def avoid!!
Professor Nabi is one of the best professors at UCSB. She is engaging, has great personal experience stories, and her slides are straight forward. Her tests are mainly focused on the lectures (you could get an A- without doing the readings). Just don't use your phone in class, it is her pet peeve!
There was a lot of studying required with Nabi's class. The exams are heavy on the essay questions and they ultimately require memorization over application. Nabi is a nice woman who is very approachable however, not the best lecturer if i'm being honest. The content in her Health Comm class is pretty interesting. Graded on 1 paper and 2 exams.
I regret taking Nabi's class moreso than any other Ive yet taken at UCSB. She's a very kind woman but not a good teacher in my opinion. Her exams are short-essay dominant and require more memorization than actual analysis, application or understanding. She says she does not want to make tricky exams but despite this, her phraseology is unclear.
would not take again: confusing prompts and test question phrasing, not consistent when defining terms in lecture, values memorization on the exams mores than comprehension or application.
Did not purchase textbook. The online readings are enough to get you by. The structure is very abstract - broad class. Mainly models. As the course progresses, it gets much easier. One essay - your standard 6-8 page paper. The exams may be tricky, but if you did Mullin you can do this. I didn't have too hard of a time with it. She digresses often.
Professor Nabi is very enthusiastic about the subject when she teaches but her tests are tricky! I studied hard, attended every lecture and managed a C. The class is very interesting and I learned a lot but I thought I did better than I did because the material seems simple but don't be fooled!
I had her for 117 too and I honestly think shes my favorite comm professor. The subject for 139 isn't particularly interesting, it's more of a psych class but I like the way she teaches. She is clear in explaining everything and telling you what to expect on the tests. She's always throwing out some funny personal stories along the way too.. haha
Professor Nabi is an excellent professor who is genuinely concerned with the students' comprehension of the material. I thoroughly enjoyed her class because she doesn't just lecture, she throws out her own anecdotes; as opposed to a professor that just spouts out concepts and theories. She is very helpful when you don't understand the material.
Nabi is one of my favorite professors at UCSB. She is extremely smart, and super funny in a quirky way...you laugh every class period. She explains the material in an interesting way, but to do well, write down everything she says, even her examples. She talks so much and gives so much info that you don't need to read (I didn't at all and got an A)
very fun, kind & knowledgeable. earnest in effort to make sure students understand material. excellent in clarifying questions. very accessible outside of lecture. if u can get thru dolly's tests, u can get thru nabi's: be able to understand specifics of & theoret. apply concepts but DON'T UNDERESTIMATE HER EXAMS like i did today for her 117 class!
clear power points, very enthusiastic, tests are MC and short answer, to do well you have to memorize the notes b/c her tests ask for you to recall stuff nearly verbatim, which is doable since they are so clearly outlined/organized. interesting material, she really knows her stuff, really wans to help students do well. One 5-7pg paper, MT & final.
