My favorite class so far! The lectures were super interesting and they help you understand the experiments that are on the tests. There were weekly quizzes and discussions, and three ELI reviews. Definitely recommend this professor!
Amazing professor. Going to lecture is extremely important because the slides alone do not provide enough information by themselves. One of the most interesting and meaningful classes I've taken so far.
had her last quarter and her lectures were super fun (often showed videos of her kids doing a task related to the course content). very clear and flexible grading guidelines (3 different options for grading based on what assignments u complete).
She's amazing. I can't begin to explain how grateful I was that all of the assignments were so clear and all perfectly coordinated. The quizzes/summaries/discussion posts are all graded on participation, but doing them will help you so much on the exams. Go to class and you'll do great!
Genuinely interesting class. Gave 3 different options for weighting tests and participation. Article summary and discussion are graded on completion, tests are straight-forward and cover everything in slides. Didn't go to class, just watched old recorded lectures. Advice: Note key ideas + findings AND differences for AGES + exceptions.
This class was fairly easy but be careful bc tests weigh pretty heavy as everything else (weekly discussion posts/quizzes/ELI reviews) are only participation based. Lecture isn't mandatory but if you go and take notes/pay attention you'll be fine bc they set you up well for tests. She has lecture videos from past years also so you can catch up.
extremely comical knowing my dad died this quarter and i asked for a retest, even though rescheduling is in my DSP accomodations and then gives me the same exam as students who opted to just not show up. Don't worry she told me to this post lecture that they were allowed the same opportunity for being lazy even though the syllabus says diff lmao
Yeah ngl, this prof was ahhhh. That is putting it nicely. She does not teach nor lecture emphasis of matters but as me and other students have experienced is that she treats us like we are inept when trying to ask simple questions. Avoid her like the black plague despite her lab
Well she is a professor that shouldnt be teaching for starters. Second she does not teach nor offer review that will cover the exam. Not to mention if you have a family member passing she will still offer you the same opportunity as the students who decided to skip the exam resulting in lower scores. Probably the worst professor from a transfer
Liberman is the most fair professor at this university- especially within the PBS department. She structures her class into 3 different grade paths- you can either heavily rely on tests, rely mostly on tests and some ELI/Discussion posts, or do a "more" project so your tests count as less of your grade. Her tests are SO fair, & she is so respected.
She gives good, clear lectures with interesting content. She explains the content in words, videos, and graphs which is helpful. She had videos of old lectures on Canvas if you miss a class. Very strict about her no late work policy.
I wish I had more classes with Ratner! Your overall grade is based on a video presentation, midterm. and final. Exam questions were fair and were based heavily on lecture material and readings of papers that he assigns. He's a great explainer, and he provides a lot of examples in class to help you understand the material. Take him if you can!
Class graded on vid. presentation, midterm, and final. Ratner is approachable and very excited about answering students' questions during lecture. Content is straight-forward and applicable to daily life, and the assigned papers (despite being sometimes dense) were insightful and interesting (featured as test questions, too!) Ratner was great!
he gives great lectures, provides slides before class and recordings afterward, moves through content at a very reasonable pace, and always is open to questions. He is very kind and makes class an enjoyable and interactive experience if you want it to be one. the grade breakdown was midterm, video presentation, and final.
He is terribly boring, and goes over 10 examples per topic, without actually teaching anything, I personally would avoid like the plague. Probably my least favorite proffesor I've had at UCSB.
AMAZING. Ratner is very passionate and caring professor. The grade breakdown of this class was very intimidating because it was heavy on one midterm and the final. If you go to lectures, read the readings, and study a fair amount you should do great in this class.
Ratner is an amazing professor and genuinely cares about his students. He is so amazing, I had to come on here and write a positive review for him! His class was interesting and clear. For tests, he doesn't try to trick you. Class is graded only by a few things. He is a really awesome professor and teaches really well. Super caring & wants to help
Really interesting lectures and content that was organized pretty well. Make sure to understand the experiments covered in lecture in addition to the other material. Exams were straightforward.
Love this professor and this class. Lectures, quizzes, and exams were very well structured. As long as you understand the experiments and what they mean, you will do fine on the exams. The only complaint I have is that the article summary was graded super hard, but other than that I loved PSY 105 with Liberman.
I think her lectures and slides were extremely interesting and I learned a ton from the weekly articles. The article summary was graded really hard but other than that, the tests were fair and the weekly quizzes are unlimited attempts. If you really study the lectures and articles, you will do fine on exams. The professor seems sweet too!
Great professor and her lectures are so interesting, I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. As long as you go to lectures, it's an easy A. There are weekly readings but I never did them and still found both exams to be pretty easy. There are also three article summaries but you get full credit for two of them just by turning something in.
Literally awful to deal with. Good class tho
Professor Liberman is an awesome lecturer, people are rating poorly bc of their grade on the article summary, I turned mine late and got a good grade despite the points knocked. You have to practice, graded for completioin article summaries, if you actually try on those assignments, and revise, you should have no problem. Tests are fairly easy.
Honestly, she is a very inconsiderate, unkind professor. Will not listen to your situations even though they are valid, and grades the article summary incredibly harshly (it's 20% of our grade!). While the material itself is straightforward, I would not recommend this professor to anyone
