Best chem prof. I like him as a person and he was accessible during office hours and helpful. The class was insanely hard but all of chem is. He dives into more difficult problems during lecture rather than the simplest version so you know what to do. The final was really hard though and not relevant to the midterms. I'm going to miss my man ;(
Great professor with clear lectures. Chemistry has never made so much sense until now. It's still a lot of hard work, go to lectures (even though attendance isn't graded) and do the book problems and ALEKS (which is also optional) in order to do well in the class. Price is definitely one of the best in the chemistry department.
Easy to follow lectures and always covers all the needed material. Can tell that he is passionate about teaching and about the material; great personality and even better teacher.
BEST PROF AT UCSB. Delay taking your first qtr. of gen chem until the winter of your first year because he teaches one quarter behind the regular pathway. I got an A in 1A, B in 1B, and B in 1C, and am convinced I would have failed Gen Chem and dropped this major if not for Price. He is extremely knowledgeable and lectures amazingly. GET DR. PRICE!
A very kind professor, very knowledgeable and passionate about chemistry, he can get a lot of the class to laugh at his jokes. Midterms and final were fair and pretty similar to the book problems, but prepare to study. Grades are curved in your favor at the end of the quarter, he really doesn't want to fail his students.
His lessons tend to be useless, leaving you to teach yourself through problems in the online textbook. While the materials provided, such as the textbook, Aleks, and “study guides” from the TA, might help w chem, they aren't very helpful when it comes to his exams. I wouldn't recommend his class to students without prior AP chemistry knowledge.
AO was a sweet professor although his lecture wasn't helpful. He curves your overall end grade by a decent amount and does not want to fail you. He gives partial credit on the tests and the tests are not unreasonably hard if you do the textbook problems. I recommend taking him and staying consistent with the textbook problems.
BEST GEN CHEM PROFESSOR!! On the days he would wear a suit to lecture my friend and I would call him "Mr. President" lol. I had Price for Chem 1B and C and he's a get professor. He posts a lot of practice tests and you can watch his online lectures from covid which are both so helpful for the tests. Practice problems are key!!!
I LOVE THIS MAN HE IS MY ICON. He made learning chem easy, his lectures are great he literally writes out the problem with you and writes out his reasoning/steps. He also posts 5 different versions of past exams with solutions. Only annoying thing is he does not copy and paste a problem from a practice exam and put it on the real exam (iykyk)
Very clearly cares about students. Amazing at simplifying difficult material and breaking down concepts. Probably one of the best professors I've ever had. I owe him for my success in chemistry.
He genuinely wants students to succeed- and he understands that general chemistry is incredibly challenging. He does not make you memorize unnecessary complex ions and is very modern in his approach to teaching. This is class is inevitably very difficult, so to pull it off its important you understand what's happening and not just memorize.
Super passionate about chemistry and lectures are genuinely interesting. He teaches a lot of conceptual topics, so I'd highly recommend going to office hours with questions about textbook problems because they're similar to the test. Class is pretty difficult and time consuming (I spent probably 12hrs/day studying during final and midterm weeks).
HE IS SUCH A SWEET LIL GUY! MIDTERM 1 IS 30%, MIDTERM 2 IS 30%, AND FINAL IS 40%. NO ALEKS. LECTURES AND OFFICE HOURS ARE SO CHILL AND HELPFUL.
Professor Price makes the tricky content easy to grasp. The lectures are super clear, and the recorded videos are a lifesaver for reviewing. Use the practice exams and unstuckstudy ai - they'll prep you for the tough tests. Just put in the work and an A is very doable.
I love Price, he serves and slays. His lectures are very organized and you can tell he truly cares about his students' success. If you have to suffer through chem at least suffer with a goat.
Abu-Omar is the absolute goat. He is much better for 3C than 3A imo, because he gets to talk more and go on tangents about the details of chemistry. I love his charisma and he is hilarious. I HIGHLY recommend you attend because he often will tell you what he will put on the exam! Read the textbook before lecture so that you will understand it.
Good professor. He teaches directly from the textbook. Tests are free response but graded leniently. Grade is 30% each midterm, 40% final. No ALEKS. Absolutely no technology. Canvas has a list of book problems for each week and that is it (no answers posted). Study "guides" are just a list of topics to know. Does more organic chem than other profs.
Price is one of, if not the most organized professors I have ever taken. He makes the chem topics so much clearer and spreads the content evenly across the quarter making the class feel way less rushed then what I've previously experienced. 100/10 recommend, even if you have to wait a quarter for him to teach it.
I was really nervous to go through the chem series, but professor Price seems like by far the best gen chem teacher. His lectures were clear and easy to understand, and the midterms and finals were EXACTLY like his practice midterms. I did less than 5 book problems throughout both of chem 1A and 1B because the practice exams carried me.
he is AMAZING! definitely has very fast lectures, so if it helps you i would recommend writing out the notes pre-lecture and leaving space to work out the example problems he does in class. you have two grading options for your grade DO ALEKS! it is a good cushion in case you don't do well on exams.1b is harder than 1a, price makes it seem easy.
Price is an amazing chem professor and is good at making the difficult content easy to digest. Lectures are very clear and lecture videos are posted online in case you need to go back to review/miss a lecture. Exams can be difficult but are similar to the practice exams given so be sure to utilize those.
This was absolutely the worst class I have ever taken. I'm not a lazy student either. Those giving positive marks to this professor had a strong background in AP Chemistry before coming to UCSB DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Jokes more than he teaches. A cynic. No communication.Awful TA's. Took same class with a different professor next qrtr got an A+
Homework is optional. The grade is 2 tests and final, and homework if you choose. Amazing professor- I doubt I will experience his level of organization during lectures again. Hands down the best professor for Gen Chem at UCSB. He starts the sequence one quarter behind normal though, so 1A starts winter qr. Take Dr. Price for chem, he is amazing!
Best professor I have ever had and probably will ever have. Tests are hard, ngl, but he gives past practice exams which make them 1000 times easier. Getting a high A is easy to do if some work is put into it.
