He exalts such great charisma and knows how to keep you focused on his lectures with his random anecdotes and jokes. I love the level of comfort he established with the students. TA sections were kind of pointless, and I didn't really like having to do the experiments that took six hours of my time...but Overall, a great experience!
If 1 person out of 800 gets 100% on the midterm or final= no curve. This class requires a lot of reading. And only 1 midterm and 1 final.
Wonderful teacher! I looked forward to lecture everytime. He is a great speaker and presented material in a manner that was very easy to follow. I missed at least 5 lectures and several sections and pulled off a C+ grade, but if I had put in more effort (first quarter freshman) I believe this class could have been an easy A. Highly reccomend!
Fantastic teacher. I learned SO much from. Yes, inappropriate, but therefore incredibly funny. Go to the lectures. He gives you a fair game sheet (concepts that you'll need to know), and basically.. all I did was go through that and study everything off of it for the mid/final and I got an A. This class was sort of common sense to me though
Interesting subject matter but was hard for me bc its just a midterm and final that determine your grade and no homework to kind of bring it up. you have to do 6 experiments with graduate students or you get dropped a lettter grade. those are easy. if you are a good reader and soak up a lot by what people say you should do fine. im not so i gota D
His lectures are very entertaining and I learned a lot in them. Didn't do any reading or work until a few days before the midterm/final and got an A. Not a hard class if you study exactly what he tells you will be on the test (he gives you a "fair game sheet" to study from). I'm glad I took the class and it was an easy A
Amazing teacher! loved his lectures, really interesting and full of cool videos. midterm and final isnt too hard as long as you review the fair game sheet. overall a pretty easy class and very interesting!
He's a fantastic lecturer, and the class is really straightforward. There's just a midterm and final, which were almost entirely on the lecture. There were a few questions about the biology of neurons or something like that, which weren't covered in class, so check the book for that. Oh, and don't even bother with section. It's pointless.
I was already interested in Psychology prior to taking this class but now I am probably going to major in it. The class and him so so great, I love him as a professor. He's funny and gives free game sheets for the midterm and final which, if you study them, are super helpful. He uses cool examples to explain concepts too.
Great class! He made the class really enjoyable! Would recommend this class to anyone, not just psych majors.
Fridlund is awesome! He sounds like Jeff Bridges from the Big Lebowski!! Class was pretty easy. He gives you a fair game sheet,& if know everything on it then you should get an A. Also, he does act out mental illnesses, but I think they helped me get a really good idea of what each illness actually looks like. It's not intended to make fun.
Loves to make his class laugh... which is great if you're a stand up comedian but not so admirable if you're teaching psychopathology.
This class was in Campbell Hall... which sucked. Didn't like the way he portrayed mental disorders- found it offensive and unneccesary. Tests are difficult, but the textbook is very well written. I can see why people find the class fun, but content wise I felt it was lacking and the tests weren't representative of what was taught in class.
He is a good professor. However, he is not the best professor I have ever had. He was a rather pecuiler individual with a very strange sense of humor, that I did not fully understand. Section, I felt, ad no value as the TA just lectured. Other than that, Fridlund is a kind person.
5/15: you obviously dont understand how classes work. Its a university, all classes take the entire time. get used to it. Experiments only hurt your grade if youre lazy and dont get them done on time. UCSB is the wrong place for you. Overall Fridlund is the best teacher on campus and tries his best to make his class fun but informative. Take him!
He's an extremely funny teacher with ADHD, so his lectures are completely amusing. You learn a lot, and it's fun. Take this class.
Nice guy. I could tell that he cared about all students. However class lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes. I believe that class should have lasted only 50 minutes. The secion was another lecture.
The best professor I've ever had. He's an amazing lecturer and makes every class interesting, which is pretty clear when Campbell Hall is full each time. On top of that, it's a class that everyone should take.
He made the class very interesting, and if you are thinking about taking it, do it. He can be pretty funny and witty at times and he makes the midterm/final easy to prepare for. I know my grade doesn't reflect that, but hey, first quarter freshman year, I'm still sort of getting the hang of things. Great teacher, great class.
Great teacher! he makes the class fun and interesting, never a dull moment! his test are fair, they vary from moderate to hard, but if you attend lecture and read you'll get an A
interesting slides but needs to relate more to the readings
This is a great professor. All you need to do is attend lecture. He gives you all the key terms you need to know prior to the class, so all you need to do is fill in their definitions. For the reading, just look for the key terms and you're done. I worked less than 2hrs per week and got an A!
He is a good professor. Lectures are very organized and is in accordance with the textbook (which he wrote). Sections weren't mandatory. A fair amount of information but just study the study guide he gives.
sections are worthless. your grade is based solely on final and midterm and in a class of 800 the curve barely helps. interesting subjects though
