Tests were straight forward. Nothing too tricky. Teacher explained things with great clarity explaining them in a way anyone could understand
Matt was SUPER flexible and was truly there for the students. SUPER NICE. Teaching-wise, he was straight to the point, gave us the necessary materials to do well on the quiz. Matt gave us supplemental material to prepare us for the final. He let me take quizzes in other sections, so he was REALLY nice and forgiving.
He was a good ta. He was really helpful during office hours and during section. He explained everything clearly and concisely and if you didn't get it he would try to explain it in multiple ways so you would eventually understand it. He is also really nice so get him if you can
Very helpful as my TA for math 34B! He answered all of my questions very clearly.
Easy class , super nice. Got an A
Good professor, extremely helpful and knowledgeable. No trick questions on the test which is great! If you can do the math you can do the class!!!
Matt may not come off as engaging at first but it doesn't take long to notice the clarity in his teaching style, which involved examples and many different perspectives on how calculus problems can be solved. He was always very available outside of class and very willing to provide extra explanations. I'd take another class with Matt for sure!
Professor was very enthusiastic about the subject. Shows fun math videos at the end of the class and often shows us how the material we learn in class is useful in real life. Very helpful during office hours and was always had a concise and clear explanation for class especially when answering homework questions.
Matt was a great professor. Very accessible outside of class and super helpful. Definitely did as much as possible to make sure we both understood the material and did well in the class.
very good teacher, easy going and good teaching style
Matt is a great professor. I went to his office hours 2-3 times a week and he never failed to help me. His lectures were clear an concise, and he enabled me to understand everything. I had to take 34A twice, but with Matt's teaching I got an A+ in this course. It was nice to have a good math teacher finally.
Passionate and wants you to do well! The first math class I actually enjoyed.
Matt is a great instructor. His explanations are clear and concise, he always makes himself available for students, he is kind and very approachable. Matt is unique in his teaching style - he successfully presents mathematical concepts and mathematical problems using examples that students can relate to.
Awesome Professor. Very helpful. Explains concepts in great detail. Take his class!!!!
Overall, pretty easy class, approachable guy.
Cool guy. Makes class interesting.
amazing professor, cares very much for his student. I had him for 2A and 2B and he is super accessible. Responds to emails in a timely manner, has office hours 2-3 days a week, and really wants to help you succeed. Makes expectations really clear.
Porter always knows how to teach different fields of math, and in math 8 it's the same thing. Homework comes straight from the textbook and his lectures provide a good guide and depth on the contents of the textbook. Exams are straightforward, very fair and worthwhile to study for. He tries to make accommodations when situations need it. Great prof
If you took 2A, its the exact same thing just more concepts. Porter is a great person and professor. Calculus is just difficult but just be on top of HW and studying. It does take to understand but he is very nice and although he mumbles in lecture his notes are helpful. As always, go to office hours and ask for help from him and TA's
Porter is a great professor, although he would mumble to himself when doing work in lecture. Difficulty wise, its a higher level of math so its difficult. Exams are so much easier than the HW and practice exams. Just talk to him and ask questions, both Porter and the TA's are great. Grading is fair, just make sure HW does not pile up!
Reading textbook is required to do well on exams anyways, so lectures felt unnecessary. Prof is nice. Homework is graded on accuracy and long/tedious but prepares you well for exams. Exams are straightforward and the final replaces lowest exam score. HW - 30%, Exams - 20% each (3 total including final), weekly quizzes in section - 10%.
Professor Porter's lectures are easy to follow. He explains things very well. His exams are not very hard, you can learn those problems from textbook or sections. He does offer many assignments every week, but they are not difficult, and they help reviewing exam. 10% quiz, 20% hw, 70% exams, a fair grading system.
He is very great just kind of monotoned and I had him at 8am so his lectures were a little boring. However, his lectures are basically the exams plus he allows you to take a notecard on the exam so it is a lot easier. His practice exam is almost exactly the actual midterms/final. Really easy tho if you show up and learn.
beware he is a confusing professor with his notes be overfilled and he does mumble to himself but honestly the way he set up the class is so nice. he post all completed notes, if you do better on the final can overtake one out of the two midterms, and can do late hw problems for half credit for each problem.
