INT 86BD - Books Before Print: Medieval Manuscripts at UCSB
Intended for first-year students, this discovery seminar explores medieval manuscripts in Special Collections. Over the course of the quarter, students will learn how to handle manuscripts, understand their production, and interpret their decoration. We will examine a range of genres, including: Paris Bibles, Books of Hours, scientific notebooks, Qurans, and choir books. We will also consider how medieval book-making practices carried over into print—still shaping our experience of the written word today.
