This seminar offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the diverse musical landscapes of Latin America. Through genres such as Cumbia, Tango, Norteño, Son Jarocho, Tex-Mex, Salsa, Reggaeton, Samba, Brazilian Funk, and Bossa Nova, students explore how music shapes identity and drives social, political, and economic change. Emphasizing critical listening, cultural literacy, and collaborative learning, the course engages students with primary sources including historical recordings, documentary films, and musical ethnographic texts.
