This seminar offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the diverse musical landscapes of Latin America. Through genres such as Cumbia, Tango, NorteƱo, Son Jarocho, Tex-Mex, Salsa, Reggaeton, Samba, Brazilian Funk, and Bossa Nova, students explore how music shapes identity and drives social, political, and economic change. Emphasizing critical listening, cultural literacy, and collaborative learning, the course engages students with primary sources including historical recordings, documentary films, and musical ethnographic texts.

If you can memorize this class isnt bad. The pictures on the reader is on the test. But it is A LOT of stuff to remember and there is no word bank on test. He makes it so you understand and I learned a lot from this class. There is no text just a reader! Take it if you really want to learn about the body!

Really hott. Explains the material perfectly and responds to emails thoroughly and promptly. Loves when you ask questions and gets really involved in his lectures. I'm a 2nd year and this class is BY FAR my favorite I've ever taken and probably will be. Lots of memorization but he goes over it in class and makes sure you are well prepared. TAKE IT!

Really easy class. The book isn't helpful so don't bother but if you go to all the reviews the TAs basically tell you what is on the tests. Everything is memorization plus some things from lecture. There are a ton of extra credit opportunities so getting an A is easy.

This class was cake! It was all memorization, go to the weekly reviews because the TA's are so helpful. The book was not needed but the reader was so helpful. Class is fun especially because Aguilar is hot! but it's kind of annoying because he knows it and can be arrogant.

This is honestly one of the nicest professors I've had. He is fun, and genuinely likes to talk to his students. The material is a lot of memorizing, but Peter does great with review sheets and study guides (and extra credit!!). If you can make it to the review sessions the TA's teach they really help because you get extra credit on your quizzes.
