Film and Media Studies - FAMST

This rigorous, interdisciplinary seminar examines contemporary gaming, gambling, and digital media platforms. In this course we ask: How are entertainment and work shaped by capitalism and mediated by digital platforms? Who works and plays on digital platforms? How does digital media change, distort, warp, or adapt our work lives and leisure time? Drawing from texts in feminist studies, history, sociology, critical theory, gaming and gambling studies, political economy, and film theory, students will develop a high-quality, well-argued, original final paper throughout the quarter. Students will closely engage with course texts and fellow classmates’ written work in writing workshops.

Prerequisites: Film Studies 46 or upper-division standing, and consent of instructor.
