By far the BEST professor I've had at UCSB, I highly recommend taking his class. He does contract grading which means a lot less stress.
He is a great professor, really nice and chill. He makes the class fun and pretty easy. Grades were based on a few small individual assignments and one big group project which I thought were interesting.
I had a good time in this class and appreciated the well-analyzed/articulate points he made throughout, but I don't think he responded to a single email. Either way, the group project is fun and you get a lot of creative freedom within this and the other coding assignments (very approachable for coding beginners, dw!).
Professor Rutherford is such a nice guy. class is easy and straightforward. he's very open to extensions. does a bit of a weird grading system: if you just do the assignments, you get a B, and then you have to do a few extra assignments/revisions to get an A. some of the projects/writings are kind of annoying but as to be expected and super chill
Make sure you're engaged in class and doing more than the minimum requirements and you'll get an A in his class. He's very nice and definitely knows his stuff.
