CollegeProfessor Lanuza is AMAZING! He is extremely passionate, intelligent, and yet extremely down to earth (although he may pretend not to be at first). He cares about the content, your learning, and the applicability of knowledge overall. If you complain about his class, you do NOT like sociology and do not like learning. Show up, listen, & participate
I loved soc 122 with Yader! Don't be scared after his first class, he's a great professor and if you show up to every class you will do very well!
Lectures are interesting & he cares that we understand the material. As a result of his teaching doing well in the course is guaranteed as long as you show up, take notes, and do the homework - which is expected in ANY classroom. I loved this class. The issue is students want to be coddled & he treats us like adults. Has low tolerance for whiny bs
Pros: incredibly easy A if you just go to lecture and take notes. Final and midterm maybe required thirty minutes of studying, if even that. Lectures are engaging. Neutral: You aren't allowed to use your phone. Cons: Is bloodthirsty to fail people, although I don't think it happened this quarter. You can't be late at all or he stops the class.
Professor Lanuza is a great teacher who also happens to do this weird tough-guy schtick every class. The material in the class can be pretty boring, but he makes class engaging and dynamic by walking around the room and forcing you to take handwritten notes. Probably the easiest class I've taken at UCSB, midterm and final were basically free
Very fun class but I personally enjoy the material- constantly mentioned his bad reviews on rate my professor- VERY strict on ZERO technology in class- stops class and stares if you show up late- gets very mad if you take a picture of his slides in class- doesn't post slides- mentioned wanting to make his class harder- stay on his good side :)
