This course applies fundamental mechanical engineering principles to designing and constructing experimental apparatus and scientific measurement systems. A wide range of skills are necessary including mechanical design, fabrication techniques, motion control, sensors, electronics and environmental controls. Application of these skills allows for construction of entire mechanical, electrical, optical, biomechanical and electromagnetic testing equipment. In addition, most of these apparatus require environmental control such as high and low temperature, vacuum, inert gas, and liquid conditions.
