Students will study evolutionary adaptation as a source for inspiration, extracting design principles to leverage the functionality, adaptability, and robustness of biological systems. The course focuses on Biologically Inspired Design in Fluids to advance student knowledge of natural strategies and facilitate quantitative analysis of the proposed solutions. Over the quarter, the students will learn how biological systems deal with fluids and the bio-inspired design process. The course includes lectures, case studies, and design activities. The final projects aim to share bio-inspired design through STEM programs for K-6 students. We recommend that students take ME152A prior to taking this course.

ME152A . Dressaire E M 5 Months Ago

Professor Dressaire is very caring, and often comes off like she's not sure if anyone is understanding her lectures. This is nice because she is happy to go over things multiple times, and in detail. Most lectures are derivation, which aren't on HW or exams. The exams were very predictable, and the homework was interesting but doable with TA help.

The best professor I've had in all four years. So bright of a person; you can tell she loves her job. Lectures are super clear, and she posts comprehensive lecture notes. Exams were easy, and the grading was generous. Homework is very helpful. You can tell that she really puts a lot of thought into every aspect of the class.

Professor Dressaire is such a sweet and caring professor! Her notes and lectures are super clear and easy to follow. Homeworks were not terribly difficult, midterm and final were very similar to practice problems, so there were no surprises. Kind grader and really nice in her office hours too.
