An exploration of female and womxn’s reproductive lives from an evolutionary and biocultural perspective. We will focus on physiological, ecological, and social aspects of womxn’s development across cultures from before birth, through reproductive processes like pregnancy, birth, lactation, menopause, and aging. Examples will be drawn from contemporary human societies, including many small-scale societies, although non-human primates will also be considered occasionally. This class will include lectures, discussion in multiple formats, and other modes of learning.
