CollegeGraded on attendance (req.), participation (5%), reading quizzes (20%), midterm exam (20%), term paper (8-10 pgs; 30%) and cumulative final exam (25%). It's an eccentric topic taught by an eccentric prof., but it was a ton of fun! Jarrett loves long-winded class discussions and he's very receptive to students' interpretations. Love the guy!
A great professor! A really really kind guy. Jarrett cares about his students and really takes time during lectures explaining what he expects. Though, it's pretty heavy and if you don't like to read don't take this class. Read his entire midterm handout. I hated participating but it was mandatory. Raise your hand. He also likes domo.
Professor Jarrett was a great professor! He turns hard understanding material into something inspirational and will throw in some jokes in there to lighten up the mood. Be prepared to read! you need to engage within the class to get participation points
Jarrett is my favorite Philosophy Professor at UCSB. Since taking 130 with him I've also taken 189 and 143, but 130 still stands out as my favorite class. It also might be the most difficult of the three, but if you pay attention and put a bit of effort in your grade should never be an issue. He's a very fair grader. Very funny and engaging lecture
Reading heavy and lots of quizzes due before class, including before the very first class. Lectures were okay but took up a very small part of the class period, most of it is group discussions. He doesn't talk about the readings with us, several of which he wrote and I personally found very confusing. Often left more confused than I came in being.
Class structure keeps you engaged, and the lectures are great. You cannot get behind, though; there is a lot of ground to cover, but if you keep up, it's a really fun class. Strongly recommend taking a class from hum
