Rescorla is a smart guy, but very uninteresting. His lectures are boring and sometimes hard to follow. There was hardly any reading, but 3 papers. The only test is the 10 essay final.
I dont know how anyone can get an A in this class, i am a sophomore, and have gotten all As, and took this class and am receiving a B, and i have repeatedly met with the professors, and they say that everyone in the entire class is getting a B aswell so not to worry, IT SUCKS AND IS BORING AS HELL
Rescorla is good. I reccoment his classes.
Rescorla is a smart guy, can't argue there - but he's just not interesting. He can't maintain your interest in the lecture hall, and his lecture style is rather tranquilizing (in the most negative sense). Sure, the subjects are interesting - but the teacher doesn't match the subject here.
Michael is cool. He is very smart guy, and knows a lot about subjects he teaches. He is from Harvard, though, and it is a stigma. So he may be a sort of arrogant from time to time, but in reality he is a nice guy. His classes are very interesting, though pretty hard. And I believe he is a very handsome dude.

i love Rescorla and the way he teaches. U can't be upset if there isn't a right or wrong way to do things in this class.....its philosophy. He is very good about answering questions and clarifing what he means. I thnk he does a very good job.
it is literally (no pun intended) impossible to know how to get a good grade on this man's papers. My best acedemic field is literary writing, but this is completely different. I got Ds and low Cs on all my papers and when I asked my TA what was wrong all he could say was it was unclear. Rescorla himself is obsessed with clarity and drills points on and on , which is good and bad. If you do not write like a ****ing idiot and actually use colorful language and interesting sentence structure= bad grade

Writing for philosophy is different than other writing for other fields, so I can understand the frustration some people have writing for Rescorla. I took philosophy of science and epistemology with him and loved them both (science more than epi, though). The man is extremelly bright and knowledgable. One of the best professors I've had.
I really liked Prof. Rescorla and am so surprised to see how many people didn't. He spends lots of time on each concept, and makes it very clear what he wants of students in exams and papers. With very little philosophy background, I was able to succeed in the class-- I actually ended up interested in the subject when I thought I wouldn't care
intellectual moron... take the class and you'll see what i mean.
He goes really FAST through lectures, introducing a lot of concepts. He does go through it thoroughly, though. I recommend taking a laptop to this class. He's a nice guy, and answers questions pretty well. Lots of papers and a horribly long final. This class is doable as long as you go to lecture!
The class was completely pointless. It seemed like it was impossible to get a good grade, so I took it pass/fail. He teaches very arrogantly and thinks he knows everything. I also took PHIL 20B with Jesse and this was probably twice as hard. Stay away from this guy if you want to learn something.
EWWW I DID NOT LIKE HIM-He is SO arrogant and a difficult grader on papers! My parents write for a living, so I'm a bit of a writing snob, and once I took my paper to him and he read it and began LAUGHING! He wouldn't tell me why/what was wrong with it...I got a C on paper--I took it to TA AND HIM!!
Oh, come on kids! If he knows how to do anything it is clarify! He takes each idea and looks at it thoroughly. He makes vauge philosophy really clear. If you like to think in class, he's good. If you like to fall asleep then he probably would be comfusing.
Very Prepared, but extremely hard to undrestand the concepts. Extremely difficult grader.
Rescorla's smart; you can definitely tell that his mind moves faster than his mouth. The class was very structured and he is very specific about what to write about on the papers and what to study for the final, but it was a boring class overall. My TA ended up making the class interesting for me.
He's a tool...easy class, just 3 papers and a final. Lectures are boring but it's an easy class to fulfill a writing requirement and your GE e2 requirement.
He cracked me up with his eyes shut routine which i doubt hes aware that he does, but speaks about the subject in a very general and sometimes confusing way. my TA was an ass so that probably didnt help my view of the class either. most philosophy teachers are either weird, stuck up, or both.
haha this guy is just too funny! not what he says... but its definitely entertaining to watch him... thats the only reason i went to lecture... he likes to shut his eyes and make weird faces... easy subject matter yet still interesting
Don't take this class if you want to stay awake during your lecctures. If your looking for an expensive nap ,sign up.
First off, he knows his stuff. He is very smart, but he doesnt explain things very well. He gives you key words to memorize, but doesnt clarify how the concepts behind the words interrelate. He has unreasonably high expectations, and likes to think that philosophy is harder than it is.
rescorla knows his stuff, at first i thought he was a bit arrogant, but then i discovered he just knows a lot about the subject and is confident in relaying the information. his outfits were interesting too. he has a proffesional air about him, which makes you take the class more seriously.
