He failed me for not turning in homework assignment despite earning B otherwise, including final that covered HW. I had medical issue and he refused to take my HW late despite explaining. He didn't think my understanding of the material mattered, or my med condition &Suggested Withdrawal instead of contesting the grade. doesn't do website/e-files.

I had such a wonderful time in Advanced Epistemology! Entire class got a B or better which is wonderful for an advanced philosophy course. Readings were excruciating but the discussions we had in class made them crystal clear. He's really funny and sort of awkward, like I am, so I liked that. ;)

An awesome prof and class, as long as you don't stress about what grade you will get. Grading depends on your TA. but it is worth taking for the interesting lectures.

honestly he spends most of his time repeating himself, and the TA's aren't easy graders but in the end he doesn't expect you to know more than he's taught and with no surprise questions he is actually a refreshing test-giver compared to the dozens of pointlessly convoluted finals i've taken here at ucsb

Michael is awesome! He's smart, clear, concise, and if you go to lectures there's no way you can do well in his classes. I love how he is willing to help anyone, and he really is. He integrates movies into what we learn, and really does whatever he can in order for a student to succeed. The dude is a boss, and anyone who says otherwise is crazy.

It was very difficult, but he also said it was meant to be reasonably difficult n that helped in how to approach it. Shocked to hav such a yng prof teachin, wldnt hapn in OZ. Very difficult class.I'm not sure how I got a B, so he must have had to curve everyone's grade.I'd say the majority of people were afraid of getting a bad grade. Its not that he's a bad teacher.I think its just that the subject matter is difficult to condense into one single 10 week quarter with only two day a week classes. He's also kind of stern.

Rescorla is a very smart guy, I will definitely give him that. However, he makes his lectures a lot more confusing than they actually should be. The material is not that hard but he makes it more complicated, probably because his brain moves faster than his mouth can. He is kind of awkward and the ta's are really hard graders.

Love, love, love him! He's so nerdy cute! Also, he really takes the time to answer questions and clarify things when needed.

Rescorla is an AMAZING prof. Yea, he went to Harvard. SO? You should be happy to have him in your department. He cares that students learn the material. If you listen, you?ll find that he even tries to entertain. Kuhn and Casablanca, anyone? If anything, he?s a geek with taste. I am not a philosophy major and I still did well in his class.

Don't take phil of mind w/resorla. You wont understand a thing he says and he doesn't do powerpoint or give handouts. If your really really love philosophy you can do ok in this class but its all up to you to learn the material by going to rescorlas and the ta's office hours.

Knows what he is talking about. The class itself was hard, but that was because of the nature of the content, not his ability to teach it. Seems to be easily upset at peopel comming in late and such, but he has his moments of being funny and he does all he can to make sure everyone is understanding what he is explaining.

he is a good professor as are many in the philosophy dept. he knows his stuff really well. the class is not easy, but that is just the nature of philosophy of mind. there are 3 papers and a final that will****you. i got an A, but i LOVE philosophy. do not take if a beginner to phil.

Rescorla knows his stuff and organizes an excellent introduction for an upper level student. Might be too challenging for students unfamiliar with philosophy.

Rescorla is a wonderful professor. He's very clear, well-organized, encouraging, and patient. He invents funny hypotheticals that perfectly illustrate what he's teaching. He's challenging and makes you think hard; you definitely have to stay on top of things in his class. But if you do, you'll learn a ton from him. I highly recommend him.

Rescorla is remarkably articulate, never misses a beat, and knowledge is very impressive. His courses are certainly not *easy*, but not unreasonably difficult either. Too many people here went into their first philosophy lacking appreciation for the rigor which philosophy requires.

i'm not suprised many people didn't like him. his lectures are hard to follow indeed. however, he is definitely one of the brightest professors ever. his mind moves so fast and every word he says accurately explain his thoughts. i highly recommand him for people who want challenges and to learn from top-notch minds.

Very well spoken lecturer and a keen dresser. If you attend lectures and read the materials, his tests and papers are not hard. Explained concepts in a clear and cogent manner. I enjoyed the class and will probably take another with him. Also has a bit of a dry sense of humor.

Very organized and clear. Dresses very well and is really professional but it is sort of funny because he is so young. You feel like you are analyzing the matrix in this class, kinda cool.

hands down worst class i have taken in my entire life. the professor is pompus, awkward and very strange. the ta's are very much the same. it is nearly impossible to get good grades on papers/do well in class even if you go into office hours. DO NOT take this class. it is horrible and will make your life miserable.

Rescorla's expectations of students are so absurd it is unbelievable. All of the TAs were rude, stuck up megalomaniacs, and Rescorla himself doesn't ever seem to be on the same planet as anyone else. No matter what you write on the papers, you are told that you are being unclear... This was the most confusing and ridiculous class I have ever had.

He may be pretty boring at times, and he does sound like William Shatner. Other than that though, his lectures are very straight foward. Small powerpoint slides that are easy to copy down. As far as the papers go, you don't need to be a journalist to do well; just repeat the arguments spoonfed to you in lecture.
