Don't ask him to be on your dissertation committee. He'll forget to sign letters of recommendation again and again

There is absolutely no point in going to class. His lectures are really easy to understand (and boring), but it rarely relates to the almost impossible quizes. The TAs teach you everything you need to know. Just copy off of your smart friends during quizes and study for the final.

Just show up to class and do the homework, thats the key to Shapiro's class. He is helpful if you go see him in office hours, but during lecture he is quite boring. Definetly needs to make a boring subject a little more interesting.

this guy really sucks at teaching, if ur good at teaching urself from the book then there should be no problem, its not a hard class over all

Professor Shapiro makes the class pretty easy. His quizzes are not that hard if you study his lectures and the workouts he emphasizes, you should do okay. He'll tell you exactly which topics will be on the final, make sure you study it in the textbook if you didn't understand his lectures.

Shapiro is hard to follow, makes a lot of mistakes during lecture, and unorganized. The curve doesn't help...60% of the class gets a C or lower...He does tell you exactly what will be on the quizzes...threw a loop on the final...just do as well as you can on the quizzes

Easy class, Finals and Quizes were exactly what he said they would be like. Bottom line, if you can not get at least a B in this class, you should go to soc or cc

Econ 100B is the 2nd class that I've taken with Shapiro. He is by far the worst professor I've had at UCSB. The only reason he's "straightforward" is b/c all the 100B classes use the same workbook and textbook. His lectures are very disorganized and hard to follow. Also, he sets up the curve so that 60% of the class receives a C or lower.

Very straightforward. If you do the workbook problems and understand the workbook problems, you should have no trouble acing the class. The quizzes are fair and very closely resemble the questions in the workbook.

Shapiro defenitely ranks as the worst teacher here at UCSB. I have had almost all of them by now and am about to graduate but I thought I should let everyone know that he is about as bad as it gets, so there you go, something to look forward to!

I think he is a very nice professor, who really likes to help his students. The class is straightforward and his mistakes in class aren't that big of a deal. Easier than some people make it out to be.

I think it's pretty pompous for someone to say it's rude just because people find a fault in his teaching style and stuttering. Of all the econ teachers I had at UCSB, including Sander, Crouch, Harmon, etc, Shapiro was by far the worst and inept. He was unclear at explaining the most simple concepts in econ 1.

I think it's really rude and ignorant for people to make fun of him because he stutters. He can't change that, and his class is straightforward so it's not that hard to get an A.

Shapiro was possibly the single worst instructor I have had K-12 and beyond. his lectures were disorganized, he constantly made obvious mistakes in practice problems, and relied on TA's to correct him. His tests do not reflect what he teaches in any way.

If you want to waste your tuition money then take this class with Shapiro. He will add no value to your self-development and growth. "Mr stutter" will make you want to sleep in class and then punish you by writing his own exams which are usually a thousand times harder than what he teaches.

Get good grades on the quizes because those will help your grade. The midterm was like the quiz, but then the final was totally different. Had to really study for this class.

He seems nice, but he teaches HORRIBLY! I almost feel bad for him because he's such a horrible teacher. Stutters constantly during lecture, makes numerous mistakes on his lecture material and is often unprepared. Pulls a Jekyl and Hyde on his exams. Does not use test bank like other 100B teachers.
