Dr. Eardly was one of the best teachers i had at UCSB. she is so kind and she really cares for her students. Her recomandation letter got me into med school.
She is unbearable to listen to. Every other word out of her mouth is either an "Um" or an "Ah." I don't think I made it through a whole one of her lectures. The class itself wasn't hard. The tests are pure memory based so if u take the time to memorize the material u'll get an A.
she does say "um" all the time! she is a nice lady but spends at least half of each lecture talking about herself, her kids, and trader joes. Her tests very pretty hard because she would ask very specific questions that i don't remember her ever mentioning in lecture. Fulfills a science requirement. Nutrition had always interested me...until now
Dont listen to fools who said she drives them crazy, She is just way to nice to you people. She wants everyone to do well in her class, even those of you who arent willing to work hard for an A, too bad she is retired as of this quarter, but thanks for one great quarter!
Hard tests! But she's funny, friendly and always willing to listen and to help out. Her lectures are jumbled, but if you do the reading you'll know why.
Stopped showing up to class because I couldn't handle the way she lectured
the subject is really interesting by itself, but eardley says "um" so much its hard not to find yourself playing solitaire on your lab top when she goes off on a tangent. the tests are really hard but if you use everything from lecture you should be fine. you dont even need to read the book either
Eardley is a very nice, intelligent woman who is passionate about her subject. That said, though, her lectures are mindnumbingly boring. If you are interested in the material then by all means take the class, because the material itself is good, just make sure you're up for the task of sitting through her tedious lectures..
the class itself is really interesting, but she's a boring lecturer. the midterm and final are multiple choice/short essay and there's a 5 page paper. i still say it's worth it because of the subject material and the fact that it's an easy A.
i took mcdb 21. i went to one lecture, listened to some incomprehensible jibberjabber, and never returned (except for the midterm and final.) this was possible because i had an awesome ta. not a class i would recommend, however, if you're just trying to knock out a science requirement like i was.
Apparently she's really hard to understand because she says "um" so much, I didn't really mind. She's definitely very intelligent and her lectures are relevant and interesting. The course is exactly what I thought it would be. Section was fabulous: I had Samantha Boroda who was great. The tests were murder though.

Dr. Eardley's class is very interesting and pretty easy. Not too much info covered, make sure to take good notes in class. Very relevant, not too tricky, and fun. A bit airheaded but friendly and I really liked her. Again, not too much material, a big scientific paper and easy A for me.
50% of the questions on your finals will be vague. the rest will be questions about topics she never discussed in class. ENJOY :)
She has a problem getting her words out clearly, and she takes many pauses. She also shares information about her son, which is not important.
Not an easy to follow in lecture. When it comes to the exams, section is a great help. You have to be extremly interested in the subject if one is to endure her class.
fact: i would rather have aids than take this class again.
Extremely boring and extremely self-involved. She cares little for actually presenting stuff in lecture, just babbles a lot about her friends and her kids and her hobbies. She reverts back into lecture from tangents abruptly and her exams are too difficult to match her lecture style. TAs have attitudes.
Very easy and interesting material. Easy class as long as you got to lecture and take good notes. Very compassionate teacher who cares about her students.
CAN'T STAY ON TOPIC... likes to ask tricky questions on exams... gives a stupid 5 page paper... very annoying... avoid
she does not present the material very well. she always goes off tangent making it hard to stay focused on the subject. she talks about her personal life all the time, like if she tested on that everyone would get an a. the questions on her tests do not completely apply to the material in the book. she asks questions which arent really relevant.
I love biology so that helps a lot but I thought she was one of the best bio teachers I have taken. Great TAs and the reading is was easy, you dont even need to do it.
terrible. eardley made the class incredibly boring and her TA's were not very helpful either. said not to waste our time reading the book because the test material will be based on lecture. test was much more complicated/in depth than lecture. wasted too much time in section watching students' presentations instead of going over class material.
overall, this class's ok. This is a type of class that is hard to get a good grade although materials are fairly easy. Plus, u get to do those bloody presentations and paper for nothing. i say don't take this class, i didn't like it at all
