Professor Ravat is literally the easiest teacher I've ever had. The midterm was exceptionally easy, and she offered 15% extra credit on the midterm since students didn't do as well as she wanted. The final was easy, and shes organized and dedicated to helping her students. The class requires bare minimum study, especially for an upper div course.
Bro I left a good review, don't take her, she's sweet but her tests r evil and everyone did so bad the average was a 50% and she still didn't curve and she said oh the test will be so easy, no it wasn't it ate me and spit me up and no curve just her “generous” 2% extra credit, don't take her unless u can teach urself EVERYTHING
Avoid going to lectures, you won't learn anything. She puts random complex formulas (slides) without properly explaining how they work. To get an A, put the lectures into gpt, ask it what formulas to memorize based on what criteria the problem gives/asks for and how to solve. She is entitled & can't teach (hence the rating) -also didn't curve.
Those who say the comments are racist and biased, there is definitely a reason why among many other professors, Uma is one of the ONLYs being rated at a low score.
Never post or claim anything about the midterm/ final average or median. She acts out being so nice and caring. The so-called extra bonus isn't really boosting anything. She is performing so hard to say "I wish you all succeed", and still making the grade as tough as possible.
Honestly I never EVER write reviews but she is such a sweetie and want to tell anyone that is thinking of her to take her. She is so caring and wants success for u, she offers EC, Online Quizes, HW that was graded easily. Yes her midterm was little hard but she understood we struggled and offered EC and modified grading. TBH people r racist & mean
i dont get the hate on here, its a hard class for sure and she has an accent, but she rlly is so caring and wants to see her students succeed. She doubled the curve for the midterm, and changed the grading system to give 2% extra credit to everyone who did the homework. RAVAT the goat
The issue is not in the way she teaches or the organization of the course, but rather the structure of tests themselves which were weighted so highly. She tries to trip you up on syntax and tests little things you can only get from memorizing things in lectures. It felt more-so like a memorization test than anything.
Overall really nice prof, cares to get to know her students. The disrespect doesn't make sense on here
Good professor with fair grading criteria. Gives practice exams that are similar to the real exams. Kind lady with a real passion for teaching. Brought cookies for our class and gave them to those who participated
Tbh a kind and caring professor. Do not understand the hate on here, she's a very nice lady and definitely cares deeply about her students.
Great prof over all, really cares about her students well being. Talked about wanting to help students get into research and was very willing to give career advice outside of class time. You can tell teaching is her passion, and although her style isnt for everyone I think she was great. Don't understand the negative comments, it's unwarranted.
The only thing that mattered about this class was the weekly two sections. I found her lecture to be hard to understand but easy to learn on my own or through my TA. The majority of the grade is fluff which is nice however I felt unprepared for the final which is our only test. Take her class though because I heard the other ones are harder.
She's fine. If you are planning to take pstat 10, I would recommend her. She talks a lot about how to become a data engineer, which is not so related to this course but related to your future job.
Professor Ravat's PSTAT 10 course was well-structured and easy to do well in. Section attendance is mandatory and very helpful. The only issue is her (optional) lectures are very boring and often not helpful. I suspect this may change in the future, so I see no issue with enrolling in her courses.
honestly one of my favorite pstat teacher. the first four weeks were hard but got easy at the end. midterm was hard but she offered 10% back and the final was similar to the practice and midterm. hw were hard but doable and she has weekly online quizzes worth 25%. she's so well organized and loves talking to study's. she really cares and sweet
Genuinely don't understand the Ravat hate on RMP, I thought she was perfect for this course. Lectures and course structure were very organized. No midterm - just biweekly quizzes that could ALL be retaken at the end. Final was not bad either. Only one hw assignment per week. Made the course very approachable and was always asking for feedback!
Midterm practice questions were not on the midterm. She is the worst PSTAT professor ever, so please do not take her if you want to pass 120B. Awful grading system, and she sometimes skips trivial steps so it is hard to follow along with her.
Bruh half the questions on her midterm weren't even on the midterm practice Also she's pretty incompetent at almost everything about teaching: course structure, lectures, and just explaining things in general. Materials on canvas are frequently incomplete or removed so it's very difficult to review without AI or ULAs/TAs
last quarter i had her and i dropped her class and it was honestly quite a lot better than this one, at least exam wise but this quarter she's regressed, and her class always has some stupid gimmick like incomplete lecture slides and then her lectures suck anyway because it's just a slideshow of a bunch of abstract formulas no actual context
She has improved significantly in recent years and has made a clear effort to do so. Her rating is so low because of mostly courses from years ago, but her classes are quite approachable now (I've taken 2 recently). Used GPT for lectures instead of attending which worked for me. Homework/quizzes weekly but they're helpful, exams were reasonable.
The homework is good practice for the final exam and she truly wants students to learn. She doesn't post lecture notes for a week or so, so if you dislike going to lecture probably don't take her. But I would say she is a great professor.
She's nice and her midterms and final weren't that bad. Just do the homework and practice it and you'll be more than fine.
Professor Ravat has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class can be manageable. The exams emulate the homework, and the use of a cheat sheet helps. Unstuck AI and other study tools proved invaluable for preparing.
