She's fine. If you are planning to take pstat 10, I would recommend her. She talks a lot about how to become a data engineer, which is not so related to this course but related to your future job.
Professor Ravat's PSTAT 10 course was well-structured and easy to do well in. Section attendance is mandatory and very helpful. The only issue is her (optional) lectures are very boring and often not helpful. I suspect this may change in the future, so I see no issue with enrolling in her courses.
honestly one of my favorite pstat teacher. the first four weeks were hard but got easy at the end. midterm was hard but she offered 10% back and the final was similar to the practice and midterm. hw were hard but doable and she has weekly online quizzes worth 25%. she's so well organized and loves talking to study's. she really cares and sweet
Genuinely don't understand the Ravat hate on RMP, I thought she was perfect for this course. Lectures and course structure were very organized. No midterm - just biweekly quizzes that could ALL be retaken at the end. Final was not bad either. Only one hw assignment per week. Made the course very approachable and was always asking for feedback!
Midterm practice questions were not on the midterm. She is the worst PSTAT professor ever, so please do not take her if you want to pass 120B. Awful grading system, and she sometimes skips trivial steps so it is hard to follow along with her.
Bruh half the questions on her midterm weren't even on the midterm practice Also she's pretty incompetent at almost everything about teaching: course structure, lectures, and just explaining things in general. Materials on canvas are frequently incomplete or removed so it's very difficult to review without AI or ULAs/TAs
last quarter i had her and i dropped her class and it was honestly quite a lot better than this one, at least exam wise but this quarter she's regressed, and her class always has some stupid gimmick like incomplete lecture slides and then her lectures suck anyway because it's just a slideshow of a bunch of abstract formulas no actual context
She has improved significantly in recent years and has made a clear effort to do so. Her rating is so low because of mostly courses from years ago, but her classes are quite approachable now (I've taken 2 recently). Used GPT for lectures instead of attending which worked for me. Homework/quizzes weekly but they're helpful, exams were reasonable.
The homework is good practice for the final exam and she truly wants students to learn. She doesn't post lecture notes for a week or so, so if you dislike going to lecture probably don't take her. But I would say she is a great professor.
She's nice and her midterms and final weren't that bad. Just do the homework and practice it and you'll be more than fine.
Professor Ravat has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class can be manageable. The exams emulate the homework, and the use of a cheat sheet helps. Unstuck AI and other study tools proved invaluable for preparing.
Besides extra credit not helping, I don't think there's anything to complain about. I think she's actually a really good professor. The practice test is really helpful and the exams are similar to the homework so just make sure you understand hw and you'll be fine.
